기근을 예비하라

생명의 말씀

“주 여호와께서 가라사대 보라 날이 이를찌라 내가 기근을 땅에 보내리니 양식이 없어 주림이 아니며 물이 없어 갈함이 아니요 여호와의 말씀을 듣지 못한 기갈이라”

지금 세계는 극심한 가뭄으로 대 재앙이 빚어지고 있다고 합니다. 인도, 파키스탄, 아프가니스탄 등 서남 아시아 일부 지역에는 100년 이래 최악의 가뭄으로 이 지역 8천만명 이상의 주민들이 고통을 겪고 있습니다. 인도의 구자라트 주와 라자스탄 주의 경우는 45도의 가마솥 더위와 8년째 비 한방울 내리지 않는 극심한 재앙이 계속되고 있다고 합니다. 아프리카 지역도 80년대 들어 나무를 베어 숯을 만들고, 연료로 사용하고자 벌목을 일삼은 결과 숲이 파괴되어 극심한 가뭄이 지속되고 있습니다. 케냐의 투르카나 주는 80년대 중반까지만 해도 어디 가나 마실 물이 있었고 우거진 숲과 맛있는 과일의 보고(寶庫)였으나 이제는 물과 과일이 사라지고 1년에 비한차례 올까말까 한 사막으로 변해버렸던 것입니다. 자신들에게 주어진 복된 환경을 제대로 관리하지 못한 결과인 것입니다.

오늘 본문도 마지막 때 닥칠 대 재앙에 대해서 언급하고 있으나, 그 기근은 물이나 양식이 없어 주리는 기근이 아니라 하나님의 말씀을 듣지 못하는 영적 기갈이라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 예수님께서도 말세의 징조 가운데 하나로 ‘기근’을 말씀하셨습니다(마24:7). 그렇다면 이러한 기근에 대처하는 방법은 무엇일까요?

그것은 물이 마르기 전에 준비해 두어야 한다는 것입니다. 엘리야 선지자는 그릿 시냇가의 물이 마르기 전에(왕상17:7) 떡과 고기와 생수로 넉넉히 준비해 두었기 때문에 기근이 와도 이겨낼 수 있었습니다. 노아도 다가올 홍수를 예비하기 위해 열심히 방주를 건축한 결과 홍수 가운데서도 구원을 얻었습니다. 이처럼 은혜받을 만한 때에, 하나님의 말씀의 생수가 흐를 때 부지런히 말씀을 저장하고 준비해 두는 자만이 다가올 기근을 넉넉히 이길 수 있는 것입니다(고후6:2). 그렇다면 여러분들은 어떻게 기근을 준비하고 있습니까?

Prepare for The Famine

Amos 8:11

The Word of Life

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.”

The world is currently experiencing the disaster of extreme drought. In India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and in parts of southwestern Asia the worst drought in 100 years is giving suffering to over 80 million residents. In certain states in India such as Guzarat and Lazastan they are experiencing sweltering heat of 45 degrees and 8 years without a drop of rain. Even Africa is going through continuous extreme drought, as a result of excessive deforestation to make charcoal and to use for fuel. Until the mid 80’s state of Trucana in Kenya had a plentiful supply of water, forests and abundance of delicious fruit, however now water and fruit have disappeared and the lands have turned into a desert that sometimes receive rain once a year or no rain at all. This is the result of not being able to take proper care of the blessed environment they had been given.

The main verse is speaking of the famine that will come in the end of days. This isn’t a famine of water or food but a spiritual deprivation of not being able to hear the Word of God. Jesus said one of the signs of the end times would be “famines” (Matt 24:7). Then how can we deal with such a famine?

We must prepare before the waters dry up. The prophet Elijah was able to survive the famine as he had prepared enough bread, meat and water before the waters of the brook had dried up (I Kgs 17:7). Noah also prepared for the flood that was to come by building the Ark and as a result he received salvation amidst the flood. Only those who prepare busily by saving the Word in times where we are able to receive grace and the spring of the Word of God is flowing can fully overcome the upcoming famine (2 Cor 6:2). Then how are you preparing for the famine?

Pray that today may be a day that we use to save the spring waters of the Word of God and during times when we are able to receive grace before the famine comes.
