계명에서 십자가로

마19:20-22

생명의 말씀

“그 청년이 가로되 이 모든 것을 내가 지키었사오니 아직도 무엇이 부족하니이까 예수께서 가라사대 네가 온전하고자 할진대 가서 네 소유를 팔아 가난한 자들을 주라 그리하면 하늘에서 보화가 네게 있으리라 그리고 와서 나를 좇으라 하시니 그 청년이 재물이 많으므로 이 말씀을 듣고 근심하며 가니라”

예수님이 오시기 전에는 죄를 깨닫게 하는 계명이 왕 노릇 했지만 죄를 사하는 권세를 가지고 은혜로 이 땅에 임하신 예수님 앞에서는 계명은 단지 그림자에 불과할 뿐입니다. 우리가 의롭게 되는 것은 율법의 행위로 말미암은 것이 아니라 예수를 믿는 믿음으로 말미암은 것임을 성경은 분명하게 말씀하십니다. 그러므로 오늘의 성도들은 모두다 계명에서 십자가로 그 적을 옮겨야 살 수 있습니다.

아담과 하와는 에덴 동산에서 십계명의 내용들을 범하였습니다. 먼저 하나님 대신 새 우상을 선택함으로써 제1계명을 범하였으며, 부부간에 상호간의 의무를 망각하였을 뿐 아니라 스스로 사치와 감각에 자신을 내어맡겨 천부께 대하여는 영적으로 간음죄를 범하기도 했습니다. 그러므로 모세를 통해서 십계명을 주신 하나님은 이스라엘 백성들이 에덴 동산에서 인류의 조상 아담과 하와가 범한 죄의 속성을 깨달아 그 죄를 해결할 수 있는 길에 서길 기대하셨던 것입니다. 그러나 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님을 실망시켜드렸을 뿐 아니라 4천년간 율법으로 양육받은 그들이 오히려 율법을 도구삼아 사람들을 정죄하고 나아가 예수님마저 이 율법으로 정죄하여 십자가에 내몰고 말았습니다.

이제 우리는 계명에서 십자가로 이사가야 합니다. 인류는 결코 주어진 계명 전부를 지킬 수 없습니다. 본문의 부자 청년의 경우가 이를 증명해 줍니다. 영생을 얻고자 주께 나왔지만 영생을 얻는 참 계명을 제시하는 주의 말씀 앞에 오히려 근심하며 떠나고 말았기 때문입니다. 우리도 마찬가집니다. 예수님이 오시기 이전에는 우리도 계명의 신분이었지만, 이제는 주의 사랑과 은혜를 먹고 마시며 사는 십자가의 신분이 되었습니다(마5:17-19, 갈3:10). 계명을 지킬 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 그래서 주님은 스스로 율법의 마침으로 내어 주시고, 그 사랑 안에서 우리의 모든 것을 다 품어주신 것입니다(롬10:4). 따라서 예수님의 사랑을 받고 그를 믿는 자는 주님의 십자가 그늘 아래로 이사오지 않으면 살 수 없습니다.

지금 여러분은 어디에 거하고 계십니까? 율법의 계명 아래입니까, 아니면 주님의 십자가 밑입니까? 오늘 하루도 계명에서 십자가로 이사 옴으로 영원한 생명의 축복을 받기 위해서 기도하십시오.

From the Commandments to the Cross

Matthew 19:20-22

The Word of Life

20“All these I have kept,” the youngman said.“What do I still lack?” 21Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22When the youngman heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Before the coming of Jesus the commandments that enabled us to realise our sins governed us however these commandments are but a shadow before Jesus who has come to this Earth through grace with the authority to atone sin. The bible tells us that we become righteous not through the actions of the law but by believing in Jesus therefore today’s saints must move their gaze from the commandments to the cross in order to live.

Adam and Eve disobeyed the contents of the Ten Commandments in the Garden of Eden. First they disobeyed the first commandment by selecting another idol instead of God and they not only forgot the responsibilities between husband and wife and were led astray by humanly luxuries and instinct which resulted in committing the sin of spiritual sexual immorality.

Therefore, God who gave the Ten Commandments through Moses hoped that the Israelites would realise the attributes of the sin that had been committed by Adam and Eve and would choose to stand on the path that would resolve that sin. However, the Israelites not only disappointed God but they who had been raised through the law for 4000 years used the law as a tool to persecute others and later on persecute Jesus through this law and crucify him on the cross.

Now we must move on from the commandments to the cross. Mankind cannot keep all of the commandments that have been given to them. The analogy of the wealthy young man proves this. This was because they had come forth to the Lord to receive eternal life however they left immersed in concern before the true commandments that were presented before them. We are the same. Before Jesus came we followed the commandments but now we stand in the place of the cross and eat and drink grace.

There isn’t a person who can keep the commandments therefore Jesus presented himself as the end to the law and within that love he has embraced our all (Rom 10:4). Consequently the one who receives Jesus’ love and believes in him must come under the shadow of the Lord’s cross in order to live.
