생명의 말씀

“그리하여 온 유대와 갈릴리와 사마리아 교회가 평안하여 든든히 서 가고 주를 경외함과 성령의 위로로 진행하여 수가 더 많아지니라”

오늘 본문은 초대교회의 부흥과 성장의 축복을 말씀해 주고 있습니다. 그 비결은 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 참 평안 가운데 열심을 다하는 것입니다. 욕심과 시기 질투 가운데 있으면 절대 성장할 수 없다는 것이 성경의 일관된 주장이기도 합니다.

첫째, 성도의 생각은 하나님의 말씀을 통해서 조절돼야 합니다. 하나님의 자비와 긍휼과 사랑을 받을 때 나쁜 생각은 그림자도 없어지게 되기 때문입니다. 시7:14절에 보면 악인이 죄악을 해산한다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 악인의 마음 속에 품은 욕심이 이처럼 죄를 잉태함으로 자신이 죽고, 가정과 나라가 어두워지게 되는 것입니다. 또한 성도에게는 시기 질투가 있어선 안됩니다. 시기란 ‘샘이 나서 남을 미워하는 것’을 뜻합니다. 이스라엘 사람들이 예수를 십자가에 못박아 죽인 이유도 ‘시기’때문이었습니다(마27:18). 그래서 일찍이 욥은 시기가 어리석은 자를 멸한다고 하였습니다(욥5:1).

둘째, 심령의 평안함이 있어야 합니다. 사도바울은 각 교회마다 편지할 때 마지막에 “우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜(평강)가 너희 심령에 있을지어다”라는 축원의 말을 꼭 기록하였습니다. 베드로는 “오직 마음에 숨은 사람을 온유하고 안정한 심령의 썩지 아니할 것으로 하라”(벧전3:4)고 하였습니다. 여기서 ‘마음에 숨은 사람’이란 속사람을 뜻합니다. 이처럼 사람에겐 속사람과 겉사람이 있습니다. 이중에서 우리의 속사람이 날로 새롭고 강건해져야 합니다. “겉사람은 후패하나 우리의 속은 날로 새롭도다”(고후4:16)고 하신 말씀은 심령의 평안함에 관한 내용입니다.

셋째, 모든 염려를 맡겨야 합니다. 우리의 모든 염려를 맡길 때 예수님께서 모든 것을 해결해 주십니다. 공중의 새나 들의 백합화를 먹이시는 주께서 우리를 그냥 두시겠습니까? “먹든지 마시든지 무엇을 하든지 하나님의 영광을 위해서”(롬14:7-8) 하려는 마음으로, 모든 염려를 맡기고 충성할 때 개인과 가정과 교회가 평안하여 든든히 세워지게 됩니다.

The Word of Life

Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

Today’s main scripture reading is telling us about the blessings of the revival and growth of the first church. The secret was in believing the Word of God and trying their best within true peace. The Bible consistently states that we cannot mature if we remain within jealousy and envy.

First, the thoughts of a saint must be controlled through the Word of God. When we receive God’s mercy, benevolence and love even the shadows of bad thoughts disappear. In Psalms 7:14 it tells us whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment. We become pregnant with greed and that greed will give birth to sin and devour us, and cast over a shadow over our families and churches. Furthermore, a saint must not have any envy or jealousy. Envy, means to be jealous of and hate somebody. The reason the Israelites killed Jesus by crucifying him on the cross was because of their envy or jealousy (Matt 27:18) therefore, Job said that jealousy will destroy the foolish (Job 5:1).

Second, there needs to be a peace within our spirits. Each time the apostle Paul wrote to the churches he always included this word of blessing: “may the grace (peace) of Jesus Christ be within your spirits”. In 1Peter 3:4 it is recorded that, “rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight”. Here the one who is hiding in the “inner self” refers to our inner most being. Likewise, each person has both an inner and outer being and amongst them our inner being must become renewed and stronger every day. Thus 2 Corinthians 4:16 is about inner peace. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day”.

Third, we must leave all our worries with Him. When we leave all our worries with Jesus, he will solve all of our problems. Would the Lord who feeds the birds of the air and the lilies of the field? As recorded in Romans 14:7-8, “For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord”. When we leave all our worries with Jesus and devote ourselves, our family, church and ourselves will be full of peace and grow firm and strong.

Pray that today you will be able to establish your inner being through the Word and be victorious by gaining inner peace.
