온전히 순종하는 믿음

생명의 말씀

“오직 여분네의 아들 갈렙은 온전히 여호와를 순종하였은즉 그는 그것을 볼 것이요 그가 밟은 땅을 내가 그와 그의 자손에게 주리라”

하나님을 믿는 성도라고 하지만 우리의 삶이 고달프고 힘들게 되면 믿음 없는 자보다도 초라한 모습을 보임으로 하나님을 섭섭하게 하는 경우가 많습니다. 광야에서 하나님을 원망함으로 심판을 받았던 이스라엘 백성들이 대표적인 경우입니다. 그렇다면 요동함이 없는 믿음을 갖기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 할까요?

온전한 순종은 믿을 때 가능합니다. 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님과 모세에 대한 절대적 신뢰의 기반이 취약했기에 조금의 상황변화에도 그들의 불신과 불만을 토로했습니다. 멀리 바라보는 신앙의 안목이 없었고, 참고 기다리는 신앙적 인내가 부족했습니다. 급기야 믿음 없는 언행으로 하나님의 뜻 앞에 도전하고 만 것입니다. 40년 광야 노정에서 만나와 메추라기로 먹여주시고, 옷과 신발이 닳지 않게 보호해주시고, 인도해 주셨건만 하나님을 신뢰하고 믿는 믿음이 없었던 것입니다. 그러므로 진정한 믿음은 바늘 끝 놓일 틈도 없는 것입니다. 이런 믿음이 있을 때 온전한 순종이 가능합니다.

여호수아와 갈렙은 이러한 믿음의 소유자였습니다. 이들은 신앙의 심지가 견고할 뿐 아니라 다른 사람의 말에 마음 빼앗기지 않고 하나님을 향한 믿음의 고삐를 놓치지 않고 전진하는 자들이었습니다. 이처럼 온전한 믿음의 소유자들은 좌우로 치우치지 않습니다. 남의 말에 귀를 기울이지 않습니다. 곁눈질하지도 않습니다. 오직 하나님과의 관계만 생각하며 엎드려 무릎 꿇고 하늘을 향해 두 손을 높이 들 따름입니다.

나아가 온전히 순종하는 믿음을 가진 자는 기꺼이 고난도 자처합니다. 대표적으로 갈렙을 들 수 있는데, 그는 가나안의 땅 분배 과정에서 사람마다 기피하는 헤브론 산지를 달라고 여호수아에게 요구했습니다. 네피림과 아낙자손이 사는 험난한 곳을 맡아 정복하고자 하는 그의 자세에서, 고난의 짐을 기꺼이 짊어지는 신앙인의 면목을 발견하게 됩니다. 이처럼 온전한 믿음의 소유자는 하나님을 먼저 생각하는 자입니다. 말씀을 붙잡고 언제나 기억하며 사는 자입니다.

오늘 하루도 하나님을 믿는 믿음의 끈을 굳게 붙잡고, 약속의 말씀을 앞세우고 전진함으로 온전히 순종하는 믿음으로 승리할 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Faith to Obey Completely

Deuteronomy 1:36

The Word of Life

“Except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly.”

We say we are saints who believe in God however when our lives hit a low and become difficult due to sufferings and hardships we disappoint God by being more miserable than those who don’t have faith. The perfect example is the Israelites who were judged because of their grumbling in the wilderness. Then what must we do to have faith that doesn’t waver?

This is possible when we have complete obedience. The Israelites grumbled because they did not have complete trust in God and Moses and due to such a weak foundation, they expressed their disbelief and dissatisfaction at the most insignificant changes to their circumstance. They did not have the spiritual eyesight to see ahead and also lacked spiritual perseverance. Moreover they challenged the will of God through their unfaithful speech and actions. Although God fed them with manna and quails, prevented their shoes and clothes from wearing out and led them throughout their 40 year journey through the wilderness the Israelites did not have the heart to trust nor believe in God thus, true faith does not even have the slightest gap to fit the tip of a needle. When we have such faith it will be possible to obey completely.

Joshua and Caleb were men who had such faith. They were not only spiritually firm but they weren’t swayed by what other people said and were men who did not lose their faith toward God and moved forward. Likewise, those who possess complete faith don’t sway left or right, listen to people, nor look sideways. They only think about their relationship with God and kneel down prostrate hands held high in prayer.

Furthermore, those who have the faith to obey completely happily experience sufferings. In the process of allotting the land of Canaan, Caleb asked Joshua to give him Mount Hebron. Through his determination to conquer the land that is inhabited by the descendants of Nepherim and Anak we are able to discover his spiritual honor in delighting even throughout carrying the burdens of suffering. Hence a person of such complete faith is a person who thinks of God first and always lives holding onto the Word.

Prayer Title

Pray that today we will be able to hold onto the rope of believing in God and move forward putting the Word of promise ahead of us and gain victory through complete obedience in Him.
