인기있는 예수

막1:35-37

생명의 말씀

“새벽 오히려 미명에 예수께서 일어나 나가 한적한 곳으로 가사 거기서 기도하시더니 시몬과 및 그와 함께 있는 자들이 예수의 뒤를 따라가 만나서 가로되 모든 사람이 주를 찾나이다”

‘인기’란 말은 “많은 사람들이 좋아하며 열렬히 따르거나 성원하는 상태”를 말하며, ‘매력’이란 “사람의 마음을 사로잡아 이끄는 힘”을 말합니다. 마가복음 기자는 예수님을 가리켜 ‘인기있는 예수, 매력있는 예수’로 묘사하고 있습니다. “모든 사람들이 주를 찾나이다”(막1:37)라는 표현처럼, 수많은 사람들에게 매력있고 인기있는 예수님의 모습을 그려주고 있는 것입니다. 이러한 예수님의 인기비결은 사람들의 아픔과 처지를 공유하는데 있었습니다.

예수님은 전도할 때 상대방을 ‘측은히’, ‘민망히’ 여기셨습니다(막1:41, 마9:36, 20:34). 예수께서 오병이어의 기적을 행하신 것도 백성들을 측은히 여기셨기 때문입니다. 마15:32절에 보면 “예수께서 제자들을 불러 가라사대 내가 무리를 불쌍히 여기노라”고 하였습니다. 전도 대상자에 대한 사랑의 마음, 긍휼의 마음, 그것이 측은히 여기는 것의 실재입니다.

금년 한 해 우리는 영원히 예수를 따르고 모시고 살아야 합니다. 이를 위해서는 그 말씀의 인기와 매력을 먼저 느껴야 합니다. 그리고 전도할 때 우리도 예수님처럼 측은히 여기는 마음이 있어야 합니다. 이웃을 내 몸과 같이 사랑하지 못하면 긍휼을 베풀 수 없습니다.

우리에게 ‘긍휼’이 없으면 우리 또한 하나님께 ‘긍휼없는 심판’을 받는다고 성경은 말씀하고 있습니다(약2:13). 긍휼은 심판을 이기고 자랑한다고 했습니다. 이러한 긍휼과 측은히 여기는 마음을 본받아 매력있는 예수, 인기있는 예수를 열심히 전파하시기 바랍니다.

인류 역사상 예수님은 가장 많은 사람들에게 가장 많은 인기를 한 몸에 받았던 분입니다. 가장 매력이 넘치는 분이셨습니다. 긍휼의 마음을 가지고 복음을 전하고, 불쌍히 여기는 마음으로 한 사람 한 사람을 만나주시고, 그들의 문제를 치유해주셨기 때문입니다. 우리도 예수님의 이러한 인기와 매력을 본받는 역사가 있어야겠습니다.

<기도제목>

‘긍휼’은 상대방의 처지와 형편을 함께 공유하는 마음입니다. 예수님은 이런 긍휼의 마음으로 사람들을 돌보셨기에 인기와 매력이 넘쳤다면, 그분을 본받아 긍휼의 마음으로 사람들을 대할 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

"In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. Simon and his companions searched for Him; they found Him, and said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You."

To be popular is when many people enjoy your company and want to be with you. To be charming is when people are attracted to you. Author of Mark describes Jesus as popular and charming. Mark 1:37 states, "Everyone is looking for You.". Many people wanted to be with Jesus who was popular and charming. The reason behind His popularity was that He washed away their pain.

When Jesus preached, He had compassion for the people (Mark 1:41, Matthew 9:36, 20:34). He performed the miracle of the 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread because He felt compassion for the multitude of people. Matthew 15:32 states And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the people. When He preached, He had the heart of love, mercy, and compassion.

This year we need to commit our lives to follow Jesus. In order to commit, we need to feel the popularity and charm of God’s words. When we do evangelize, we need to have the heart of compassion as Jesus did. If you do not love your neighbors as yourself, then you will never be truly compassionate.

Bible states that if we are merciless to others then we will face judgment without any mercy and mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13). We can truly preach the word of God by receiving the heart of mercy and compassion of popular Jesus, charming Jesus.

Throughout history Jesus is the only One who has been most popular with the people. He was overflowing with charm. He spread the gospel with a merciful heart, He met with each person with a compassionate heart, and solved his or her problems. We too need to receive Jesus’ popularity and charm in order to do great works.

Mercy is when you are able to understand other’s situation and comfort them.

Jesus dealt with others with such a merciful heart that increased His popularity and charm.

Let us pray that we can have a merciful heart of Jesus when we deal with others.
