내버린 인간 부스러기

요9:2-3

생명의 말씀

“제자들이 물어 가로되 랍비여 이 사람이 소경으로 난 것이 뉘 죄로 인함이오니이까 자기오니이까 그 부모이오니까 예수께서 대답하시되 이 사람이나 그 부모가 죄를 범한 것이 아니라 그에게서 하나님의 하시는 일을 나타내고자 하심이니라”

오늘 본문의 주인공은 날 때부터 소경된 사람입니다. 소위 시각 장애인입니다. 그는 한번도 세상 구경을 못한 사람입니다. 단지 사람들의 설명과 촉각을 통해 형성된 상상의 세계만 있을 뿐입니다. 흔히 그러한 자에게는 패배의식과 절망만이 가득 차 있습니다. 경제적 능력이 부족합니다. 사람들의 보호와 부양을 받아야만 살아갈 수 있습니다. 그래서 제자들은 예수님께 그의 소경됨이 어떠한 죄로 말미암은 것인가를 여쭸습니다. “자기오니이까 그 부모오니이까?”(:2) 그러나 예수님의 대답은 너무나 뜻밖이었습니다. “그에게서 하나님의 하시는 일을 나타내고자 하심이니라”(:3). 죄의 열매로 소경된줄 알았던 당시 사람들에게 하나님의 일을 나타내시는 방편임을 깨우쳐 주신 것입니다. 이는 우리 생각에 아무리 보잘 것 없고 쓸모없는 인간이라 할지라도 존재할 가치가 있다는 말입니다. 하나님의 뜻이 깃들어 있다는 것입니다.

내버린 인간 부스러기와 같은 소경. 우리는 다 그와 같이 우리 몸, 우리 마음 어디고 한 부분이 고장난 존재입니다. 그러나 예수님은 우리 속에 비교의식을 통해 형성된 패배의식, 열등감, 원망과 불평의 생각을 훌훌 털어버리고 창조의식을 불어넣어 주셨습니다. 자신의 삶의 가치를 인정하고, 하나님 안에서 날마다 새로운 자신을 발견하고 믿음으로 굳세게 살아가는 사람으로 만들어주신 것입니다.

여러분은 스스로를 어떻게 생각하십니까? 다른 사람들이 여러분 자신을 어떻게 바라보고 있다고 생각하십니까? 중요한 것은 소경에게도 하나님의 하시는 일을 나타내고자 하셨던 것처럼, 여러분에게도 하나님께서 하시고자 하는 일이 있다는 것입니다. 그러기에 나는 하나님께 가치가 있는 존재입니다. 중요한 존재입니다. 나 자신을 함부로 내던지지 말고 하나님의 일을 이루실 수 있도록 감사함으로 내어드려야겠습니다.

하나님의 형상을 입은 사람은 모두 귀중한 존재입니다. 오늘 하루도 여러분들의 언행과 일거수일투족을 통해 하나님께서 하시고자 하는 일을 나타낼 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Man Who Was Kicked Aside

John 9:2-3

The Word of Life

His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?”“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

The main character in today’s main verse is a blind man whose vision was impaired at birth. In other words he was visually impaired. He was not once able to see the world through his own eyes. His imagination of the world was formed only through people’s explanations and his senses. It is common that such people are filled with feelings of helplessness, despair and they lack in economic power and they cannot live without the help and protection of other people.

Therefore the disciples asked Jesus whose sins made the man blind. “Was it his sin or his parents?” (:2), however Jesus’ answer was unexpected. He replied “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him” (:3). To the people who thought that the man had become blind due to the fruits of sin the teachings of Jesus taught them that the man’s blindness was all a part of the method in revealing the work of God. This tells us that however insignificant and useless a man may be, they are worthy of existence. God’s will lies within them.

The blind man was like a man who had been kicked aside. Like him we all have faults in our bodies or our hearts. However, Jesus disposed of all of our feelings of helplessness, inferiority, resent, grumbling that had been formed as a result of our constant need to compare and filled us with an awareness of creation. He has made us into people who have acknowledged the value of our lives and lives within God with concrete faith that discovers a new self each day.

What do you think? How do you think other people perceive you? The important thing is that just as God wanted to reveal His work through the blind man, God has work that He wants to carry out through each and every one of us. Therefore, we mustn’t throw ourselves aside recklessly and remember that in God’s eyes we are important and worthy of existence and dedicate ourselves to Him with thanksgiving

Each person who has been created in the image of God is precious. Pray that today you will be able to reveal the work that God wants to carry out through your words, actions and deeds.
