사사 입산의 가정

삿12:8-10

생명의 말씀

“그의 뒤에는 베들레헴 입산이 이스라엘의 사사이었더라 그가 아들 삼십과 딸 삼십을 두었더니 딸들은 타국으로 시집 보내었고 아들들을 위하여는 타국에서 여자 삼십을 데려왔더라 그가 이스라엘 사사가 된지 칠년이라 입산이 죽으매 베들레헴에 장사되었더라”

‘사사(士師)’란 ‘심판자들’이란 뜻으로 당시에는 ‘하나님의 영에 의해서 지혜와 능력을 받아 이스라엘을 구원하는 사람’을 의미했습니다. 그러므로 당시에 사사는 이스라엘의 통치자로서 정치적, 군사적 권력뿐 아니라 종교적 권력을 행사하는 하나님의 대리자로 활동하였습니다. 그런데 사사 ‘입산’은 7년 동안의 재임 기간 동안에 한 일이라곤 아들 30과 딸 30을 결혼시킨 일 밖에 없었습니다. 그것도 ‘타국’으로 딸들을 시집보내고, ‘타국’에서 며느리들을 데려옴으로써 이방 족속과의 통혼(通婚)을 금지한 율법을 정면으로 위반하고 있었습니다(신7:3). 이방과의 통혼은 이방의 종교와 문화까지도 들여와 백성들의 종교적 타락을 초래하기 때문에 철저하게 금하셨음에도 불구하고 입산은 지도자로서 모범을 보이지 못하고 오히려 율법을 훼손하는 죄를 범하고 말았던 것입니다.

7년 동안에 60명의 자녀를 결혼시켰다면 거의 1.5개월마다 한 번씩 혼례를 치룬 셈입니다. 한 명의 자녀를 결혼시키는데 아무리 적어도 한 달 이상의 준비기간이 소요된다고 볼 때 사사 입산은 7년의 재임 기간 동안 한 일이라곤 자녀들을 결혼시킨 일밖에 없습니다. 이는 다양한 나라와 집안끼리 인척관계를 맺음으로서 나라의 안정을 도모하려는 인간적인 생각의 발로라 할 수 있습니다. 사사로서 하나님의 능력에 의지하지 않고 사람의 힘을 의지했던 입산의 행위는마치 하나님을 의지하지 않고 군인의 수를 의지하고자 인구조사를 실시했던 다윗의 죄악과도 유사한 행동입니다. 그 결과 입산은 사사가 된지 7년 만에 죽어 베들레헴, 그의 고향에 장사 지낸 것으로 그의 생은 마침표를 찍게 됩니다.

입산의 생애, 그의 가정을 통해 얻는 교훈이 무엇입니까? 내 자식, 나의 가정, 내게 도움이 될 사람을 의지하기 전에 먼저 하나님께 매달리며 하나님의 뜻을 구하는 삶이야말로 참된 사사의 삶, 올바른 성도의 삶이 아니겠습니까?

사사 입산과 같이 사람의 힘을 의지하고 육신의 문제에만 매달리지 말고 하나님의 거룩한 뜻의 성취에 관심을 가지고, 이를 감당할 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

The Household of Judge Ibzan

Judges 12:8-10

The Word of Life

8 After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem led Israel. 9 He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters away in marriage to those outside his clan, and for his sons he brought in thirty young women as wives from outside hisc lan. Ibzan led Israel seven years. 10Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.

The word ‘judge’ means ‘the one who decides or judges’ and refers to those who had ‘received wisdom and power from the spirit of God and saved Israel’ therefore, the judges of the time were leaders appointed to Israel and not only had political and military authority but also had the power to exert religious authority and acted as God’s representatives. However the judge Ibzan had only married off his 30 sons and 30 daughters while he was in office for 7 years. In addition to this he married off his daughters to men of foreign nations and brought in daughter-in-laws from foreign nations which was a breach in the law that prohibited intermarriage (Deut 7:3). God had strictly prohibited intermarriage as it would also bring with it gentile religions and cultures causing the people to fall spiritually but Ibzan did not set an example as a leader and rather defiled the law and committed sin.

If he had married off 60 children in 7 years that equates to a wedding every one and a half months and if we estimate that a minimum of one month is required in preparation for the wedding it can be seen that during the 7 years that he held office all he did was prepare weddings for his children. Ibzan’s actions can be seen to have originated from worldly thoughts to secure the security of the nation of Israel by establishing in law-ship relations by marriage. The actions of Ibzan who relied on humanly power than in

God’s are like David’s who tried to rely on military might by carrying out a census rather than relying on God. As a result of his actions Ibzan died, concluding his 7 year period as a judge and was buried in his hometown, Bethlehem.  

 

What is the lesson we learn through Ibzan’s life and his household? Rather than relying on our children, family and people who may benefit us, the lives of a true judge and saint holds onto God first and seeks his will.

Prayer Title

Pray that we may not become like Ibzan and rely on human strength and dwell on fleshly problems and take more interest in the fulfillment of the will of God and uphold it.
