예배는 신령과 진정으로

요4:23-24

생명의 말씀

“아버지께 참으로 예배하는 자들은 신령과 진정으로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이때라 아버지께서는 이렇게 자기에게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라 하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 신령과 진정으로 예배할지니라”

원어적인 측면에서 본 예배의 본질은 ‘엎드림’과 ‘섬김’입니다. 구약의 예배는 히브리어 ‘샤하’에서 유래된 말로 “땅에 엎드리다”의 기본 뜻을 가지고 있습니다. 두 번째는 ‘아바드’인데 이 말의 뜻은 ‘섬긴다’(serve)로서 신약의 예배(라트레이아) 개념과 일치합니다. 세 번째는 그리스어 ‘프로스퀴네오’로 ‘경배하다, 절하다’의 뜻을 지닙니다. 동방박사들이 아기예수께 절하며 경배할 때 쓰인 단어입니다. 이처럼 원어적 의미에서 볼 때 예배란 하나님 앞에 나아와 무릎을 꿇고 엎드려 경배하며, 정성을 다해 섬기는 것을 말합니다.

내용적인 측면에서 볼 때 예배란 ‘신령과 진정’이 있어야 합니다. ‘신령’이란 그리스어 ‘프뉴마’로서 ‘성령’을 말합니다. 유대인들은 예배를 드리되 신령이 빠졌기에 형식적인 예배에 그치고 만 것입니다. ‘진정’이란 ‘진리’를 말합니다. 예배의 중요한 본질은 참된 말씀의 계시가 있어야 합니다. 사람들의 추측이나 깨달음, 도덕적 교훈이 아니라 하나님의 말씀이 선포될 때 참된 예배가 될 수 있는 것입니다. 이 진리는 그림자가 아니라 실체입니다. 바로 예수 그리스도야말로 진리의 실체이므로, 예배는 진리의 실체되는 예수 그리스도를 말씀을 통해서 만나는 것입니다.

또한 예배의 중요한 핵심은 바로 자신을 ‘제물’로 드리는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 사도바울이 롬12:1에서 말한 ‘영적 예배’입니다. 우리 몸을 산 제물로 드려야합니다. 그것은 주님을 위하여 내가 종이 되는 태도이

며, 주님을 위하여 내려가는 태도입니다. 가난한 자를 도와주고 주를 위해 죽고, 주를 위해 성질 부리지 않고 참는 것입니다. 이것이 제물처럼 나 자신을 죽이고 하나님 앞에 산 제물로 드리는 인격적 예배입니다. 나아가 우리의 행위와 외모까지도 경건하게 드려야합니다. “음행과 온갖 더러운 것과 탐욕은 너희 중에서 그 이름이라도 부르지 말라”(엠5:3)고 한 말씀이야말로 참된 영적 예배의 기준이 되는 것입니다.

여러분의 예배생활은 어떠하십니까? 진심으로 하나님 앞에 엎드려 경배하고, 주님의 몸된 교회를 섬길 때 신령과 진정으로 드리는 참 예배가 될줄 믿습니다. 오늘 하루 여러분의 삶도 영적 영역에서뿐 아니라 여러분의 행위와 외모까지도 경건하게 신령한 예배의 삶을 살 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

Worship in Spirit and in Truth

John 4:23-24

The Word of Life

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

The foundation of worship viewed via the original language is “prostration” and “serving”. The word “worship” in the Old Testament is derived from the Hebrew word “Shaha” which means “to lie prostrate on the ground”. Secondly, the word “abid” means “to serve” and corresponds to the theme of worship in the New estament. Thirdly the Greek word ‘Prosquineo’ means to “worship” or to “bow down”. This word is the same word that is used when the magi bow down and worship Jesus. Likewise when we view this in the original meaning, worship refers to kneeling before God and shiping and serving with all our hearts. When we view worship from the tent side, worship must have “spirit and truth”

“Spirit” in Greek is “Punooma” and refers to the Holy Spirit. The Jews worshipped however the spirit was absent in their worship which meant their worship was a mere ceremony. When we talk about “sincerity” it also refers to the “truth”. The important foundation of worship is that there needs to be a true revelation of the Word. Only when the Word of God is proclaimed can it become a true Worship, not through humanly assumptions and realizations or moral teachings. This teaching is not a shadow but the truth. Only the Word’s of Jesus Christ are the true teaching and the time of worship is when we meet Jesus Christ who is the truth through the Word.

Moreover, another crucial factor at the center of worship is giving oneself as an offering. This is the “spiritual worship” that the apostle Paul spoke of in Romans 12:1. We must offer up ourselves as a living sacrifice. The act of becoming a servant for the Lord and humbling ourselves for the Lord by helping the poor and dying for the Lord, and suppressing ones temper is giving moral worship before God by killing ourselves and offering ourselves up as a living sacrifice. Furthermore, we need to offer our actions and physical appearance righteously. Ephesians 5:3 “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people” is the Word that becomes the standard for true spiritual worship.

How is your life of worship? When you truly bow down before God and worship and serve the church which is the body of Christ, we believe you will be able to offer up a true worship in spirit and in truth. Pray that today you may be able to live a life of true worship in your actions and keep your physical actions righteous so that you will be able to live a life of true spiritual worship.
