생명의 말씀

“감사로 제사를 드리는 자가 나를 영화롭게 하나니 그 행위를 옳게 하는 자에게 내가 하나님의 구원을 보이리라”

“내게 주어진 운명을 운명으로 알고 감사하는 것이 지극히 큰 축복이다”. 슈바이처 박사의 말입니다. 이는 어떤 환경에서도 감사하는 신앙이 있을 때 능히 그것을 극복할 수 있다는 말씀입니다. 그러므로 넘어졌다가도 늘 일어서는 사람, 불행 가운데서도 늘 형통의 열매를 맺는 사람들의 특징을 보면 ‘감사’가 빠지지 않고 등장합니다.

자기의 현실에서 불평과 원망을 하는 사람은 삶 전체를 저주로 만들어 버립니다. 그나마 있는 것을 더 무너뜨려 더욱 열악하게 만듭니다. 그러나 삶의 가장 밑바닥에 있다 할지라도 감사하는 사람은 로케트처럼 하늘을 향해 솟구쳐 올라갑니다. 그런 사람들은 도저히 세상이 감당치를 못합니다. 그래서 사도 바울은 데살로니가 교회 교인들 향해 ‘범사에 감사하라’고 하였던 것입니다(살전5:18).

그러면 감사로 제사를 드리는 사람들은 어떠한 삶을 사는 사람들일까요? 그들은 어떠한 형편과 처지에 있던지 주님을 위해 할 일이 무엇인지를 찾고 행하는 사람입니다. 사도바울도 다메섹 도상에서 예수를 만난 이후로 가장 먼저 드린 기도는 “주여 내가 무엇을 하리이까?” 하나님의 일을 구하는 기도였습니다(행22:10). 하나님의 일을 하는 것은 형편과 처지가 허락해서 하는게 아닙니다. 도저히 일할 수 없고, 자기의 생명도 어찌될 바를 알지 못하는 극한 상황 속에서도 감사하는 신앙이 있을 때, 자신보다 먼저 하나님의 일을 구할 수 있습니다. 사도바울도 실망과 불행을 모르고 인생을 살아간 것은 환경이 좋아서가 아닙니다. 어떠한 환경에 있던지 예수 그리스도 안에서 주시는 말씀의 은혜를 받고 깨달아서 자신의 할 일을 찾았기 때문입니다. 자기 일이 아니라 하나님의 일입니다. 하나님의 뜻을 이룩하는 일에 충성했던 것입니다. 그것이 바로 감사로 제사를 드리는 자의 삶입니다.

오늘 하루의 삶도 감사의 조건을 찾아서 감사할 수 있는 하루, 감사할 수 없지만 오히려 먼저 감사로 고백할 때 역경과 고통이 감사의 조건으로 바뀌는 것을 체험할 수 있는 하루가 되기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

“Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”

These are the words of Professor Albert Schweitzer “being thankful, knowing and acknowledging the fate that has been given to me is the greatest blessing”. This tells us when we have the faith to give thanks in whatever circumstance we are surely able to overcome it. Therefore, people who always get back up if they fall and bear fruits of prosperity even within times of misfortune “give thanks”.

People who complain and blame others turn their entire life into a curse. They tear down the remnants of what they still have and make their situation worse but even though they may be right at the bottom in life if they give thanks they will soar up like a rocket towards the sky. Even the world cannot handle such people so the apostle Paul taught the saints of the Church of Thessalonians to “always give thanks” (1 Thes 5:18).

Then what kind of life do people who sacrifice thank offerings live? They are people who seek out what work needs to be done and carry out the work of the Lord whatever situation they may be in. After the apostle Paul met Jesus on the way to Damascus, his first prayer was “Lord what shall I do?” this was a prayer seeking the work of God (Acts 22:10). We don’t do God’s because our situation and circumstances allow it. When we have the faith to give thanks to God even in the most extreme of situations where you are unsure of your own life, we can seek God’s work first than ourselves.

The apostle Paul did not live his life without disappointments or misfortunes because he was blessed with a good environment. It was possible because whatever circumstance he was in he remained in Jesus Christ and received realization and grace from the Word and sought out what work he needed to do. It wasn’t his work but the work of God. He pledged loyalty in accomplishing God’s will. That is a life that sacrifices thank offerings.

Pray that today you will be able to find reasons to give thanks and even though you have nothing to be thankful by giving thanks experience your hardships and sufferings transform into reasons of thanksgiving.
