예수의 눈길을 사로잡은 믿음

요20:27

생명의 말씀

“도마에게 이르시되 네 손가락을 이리 내밀어 내 손을 보고 네 손을 내밀어 내 옆구리에 넣어 보라 그리하고 믿음 없는 자가 되지 말고 믿는 자가 되라”

믿음은 여러 가지가 아니라 오직 하나입니다. 주도 하나요 믿음도 하나요 성령도 하나입니다(엡4:3-6). 성경대로 믿기만 하면 이러한 확실한 믿음을 예수님 앞에 보여줄 수 있습니다. 우리가 마음 가운데 이처럼 뜨거운 믿음, 확실한 믿음만 갖고 있으면 예수님의 눈길을 사로잡을 수 있습니다. 예수님께서 사랑의 눈으로, 긍휼의 눈으로 우리를 바라보시면 모든 문제가 해결함 받을 수 있습니다.

가나안 여인의 믿음이 바로 그러한 믿음이었습니다. 귀신들린 자기의 딸을 고쳐달라는 간청을 하지만 예수님께서는 매정하게 거절합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그녀는 물러서지 않고 끝까지 주님을 믿는 믿음을 잃지 않았습니다. 예수님 앞에 매달리는 행함, 끝까지 그 발 아래 엎드리는 행함을 보여주었습니다. 가나안 여인의 확실한 믿음에 반한 것은 예수님이셨습니다. 그분의 눈길이 그녀로부터 떠나질 못하였습니다. 이처럼 우리가 확실한 믿음을 가지고 있기만 하면 예수님의 눈길을 사로잡게 됩니다. 예수님의 눈길이 우리의 삶의 현장에 임하기만 하면, 그것이 아무리 힘들고 어려운 상황이라도 즉시 해결받게 됩니다.

주님의 제자들은 이러한 믿음을 보여주지 못했습니다. 그래서 십자가 앞에 홀로 선 주님을 버려두고 뿔뿔이 다 흩어졌습니다. 그 중에서도 도마는 8일이나 지각생이었습니다. 도마는 자기 눈으로 직접 보지 못하면 믿지 못하는 사람이었습니다. 그러나 양손 양발에 못자국 난 주님을 보고 고꾸라지고 말았습니다. 그 때 주님께서 도마에게 하신 말씀이 무엇입니까? “믿음 없는 자가 되지 말고 믿는 자가 되라”(요20:27)고 하셨습니다. 이것이 주님의 눈길을 사로잡는 비결입니다. 도마처럼 자신의 지식과 잔꾀로 믿는 사람들은 절대 행함의 능력이 나오지 못합니다. 잠1:31절에서 “자기 행위의 열매를 먹으며 자기 꾀에 배부르리라”한 것 처럼 믿지 못하는 것이 다 잔꾀고 자기 지식입니다. 이러한 차원의 신앙에서 졸업하여 믿음과 행함이 일치되는 차원으로 나아가야 합니다.

예수님의 눈길은 언제나 온전한 믿음과 행함을 소유한 사람에게로 향합니다. 이와같이 온전한 믿음으로 예수님의 눈길을 사로잡을 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

Faith Caught by Jesus’ Eyes

John 20:27

The Word of Life

"Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.""

Faith is only God. There is only one Lord, one faith, and one Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:3-6). When you believe according to the Holy Spirit, then you can display true faith before Jesus. When your faith is hot and sure then Jesus’ eyes will catch it. Jesus’ eyes of love and mercy will look toward us and resolve all our problems.

This was the faith of the woman from Canaan. She asked Jesus to heal her demon possessed daughter but Jesus declined. However, she need not budge nor lose her faith in Jesus. She persistently asked Jesus to heal her daughter and bowed down upon His feet displaying her actions. The faith of the woman from Canaan sought after Jesus. In return, His eyes focused on her. When we have faith full of assurance then Jesus’ eyes will catch it. Regardless how difficult the problems are in our lives, He will resolve them when we are caught in His eyes.

Jesus’ disciples were not able to display this type of faith. They deserted Jesus and were scattered when He was taken to be crucified. Among them, Thomas was absent for 8 days from the time Jesus first showed Himself to the disciples. Thomas testified that he would not believe Jesus resurrected until he saw Him with his own eyes. However, when he saw Jesus with the holes in His eyes and feet, he was embarrassed. What did Jesus tell Thomas? “Do not be unbelieving, but believing” (John 20:27). This is the secret to getting Jesus’ attention. If you are like Thomas, who calculates in their faith then it will be impossible for God to work through you. Proverbs 1:31 states, "So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way And be satiated with their own devices. It is important that we grow out from calculating our faith, but reach for our faith and actions to be one.

Jesus eyes were upon those who displayed perfect faith and actions. Let us pray that Jesus’ eyes will catch us.
