올라가는 신앙

미4:2

생명의 말씀

“곧 많은 이방이 가며 이르기를 오라 우리가 여호와의 산에 올라가서 야곱의 하나님의 전에 이르자 그가 그 도로 우리에게 가르치실 것이라 우리가 그 길로 행하리라 하리니 이는 율법이 시온에서부터 나올 것이요 여호와의 말씀이 예루살렘에서부터 나올 것임이라”

선지자들이 이스라엘 백성들에게 예배를 위해 성전에 초청할 때 “우리가 여호와의 전에 올라가자”(미4:2) 라고 표현하고 있습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 언제나 시온 산에 있는 성전을 높은 곳으로 생각했는데, 그곳은 ‘크고 높으신 하나님을 섬기는 장소’였기 때문입니다. 그래서 성전에 나아가는 행위를 언제나 ‘올라간다’란 말로 표현하였던 것입니다.

행3:1절 말씀을 볼 때 베드로와 요한도 성전에 ‘올라갔습니다’. 올라가서 40년 동안 앉은뱅이한테 주의 영광을 나타내었고, 히스기야 왕도 아침 일찍 일어나 성읍의 귀인들을 모아 여호와의 전에 올라갔습니다(대하29:20, 사37:14). 예수님도 열두 살 때(눅2:42), 공생애 가운데 예루살렘에 올라가셔서(요7:14) 말씀을 가르치셨습니다. 하나님의 사람 엘리야도 병들어 죽어가는 사르밧 과부의 아들의 시체를 안고 다락에 ‘올라가서’ 하나님께 부르짖는 가운데 살아났습니다(왕상17:19-24). 또한 갈멜산 꼭대기에 ‘올라가’ 땅에 엎드려 얼굴을 무릎 사이에 대고 하나님 앞에 기도할 때 응답을 받았습니다.

베드로 또한 욥바에 살던 시므온의 집에 우거하던 중 지붕에 ‘올라가서’ 기도할 때 응답을 받았습니다(행10:9). 예수님도 세 제자를 데리고 높은 산에 ‘올라갔습니다’(마17:1). 주님의 구속의 은총인 십자가를 지시기 전에 하나님의 산에 높이 올라가 모세와 엘리야와 함께 의논하셨던 것입니다(눅9:31). 또한 눅18:10절 말씀을 볼 때 두 사람이 기도하러 성전에 ‘올라갔다’고 말씀하고 있습니다.

이처럼 하나님께 예배드리며 기도하고 나아가는 행위는 내려가는 것이 아니라 올라가는 것입니다. 세상에서도 어떤 일이 ‘내리막길’이 되면 망하게 됩니다. 내리막으로 치닫는 일이라 할지라도 하나님의 힘을 의지하고 믿음의 양손을 내밀어 받치는 가운데 높이 올라가는 역사가 있어야겠습니다.

<기도제목>

신앙은 내려가는 것이 아니라 늘 올라가는 것입니다. 하나님을 향해서 올라가는 신앙으로 전진할 때 우리의 기도와 예배가 상달됩니다. 오늘 하루도 주를 향해 올라가는 신앙으로 살아갈 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

Micah 4:2

The word of life

"Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem."

The prophets described worshipping at the temple as “let us go up to the mountain of the LORD” (Micah 4:2). The Israelites believed that the temple at Mount Zion was at ascending place. That place was where “it was large and ascending to serve God”. Therefore, when you enter the temple it was associated to entering an ascended place.

In Acts 3:1, Peter and John were going up to the temple. There, God’s glory was displayed by healing a man who was lame for 40 years. Also, King Hezekiah arose early and went up to the house of the LORD (2Chronicles 29:20, Isaiah 37:14). Jesus at the age of two went up to the temple (Luke 2:42) and during His public ministry went up to the temple to teach (John 7:14). Elijah, man of God took the dead son of the widow of Zarephath and carried him up to the attic and cried out to God to heal him (1Kings 17:19-24). Elijah went up to the top of Mount Carmel and knelt on his knees to pray to God and received God’s response. Peter received God’s response when he went up to the housetop of Simon in Joppa to pray (Acts 10:9). Jesus also took three disciples and led them on a high mountain (Matthew 17:1).

Before Jesus was about to save the world through the crucifixion, He met with Moses and Elijah on God’s high mountain to discuss the plans (Luke 9:31).

In Luke 18:10, two men went up to the temple to pray.

Therefore, when you worship and pray to God, you are ascending and not descending. In this world, when things go downhill, it is not good news. Even though you may face a downward slope, when you rely on God’s strength and open your two hands to Him you will go upward.

<Prayer Request>

Faith in God is ascending and not descending. When our faith rises to God, then our prayers and worship have been received. Let us pray that we can live a life with our faith ascending to God.
