송이꿀을 먹으라

시19:9-10

생명의 말씀

“여호와를 경외하는 도는 정결하여 영원까지 이르고 여호와의 규례는 확실하여 다 의로우니 금 곧 많은 정금보다 더 사모할 것이며 꿀과 송이꿀보다 더 달도다”

본문에서 꿀은 달콤하고 은혜스러우면서도 지혜로운 하나님의 말씀을 상징하고 있습니다. 그러나 꿀은 건강식품으로서도 매우 유익한 음식입니다. 꿀은 혈당의 농도를 조절하여 몸의 피로를 없애주고, 칼슘 마그네슘 등의 성분으로 인해 신경통과 관절염 등에 좋은 효과를 나타낸다고 합니다. 이처럼 사람의 몸에 좋은 꿀이 만들어지기까지의 과정을 보면, 1 킬로그램의 꿀을 만들기 위해 벌이 560만 송이의 꽃을 찾아다녀야 한다고 하니 벌의 성실함과 오염되지 않은 꽃가루의 희생을 통해 만들어진 좋은 양약입니다. 특별히 꿀의 달콤한 맛은 흔히 세상에서 제일 좋은 것을 비유할 때 사용되었는데, 과일이나 음식의 맛이 좋을 것을 나타낼 때 ‘꿀 맛’이라고 하고, 서양에서는 배우자를 ‘꿀’(허니)이라고 부릅니다.

이와 같이 꿀의 유익함으로 인해 성경에서는 하나님의 말씀을 비유하고 있습니다. 꿀을 먹을 때의 달콤함처럼 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 깨닫는 기쁨이야말로 하나님께서 인생에게 주시는 최고의 기쁨과 즐거움이 됩니다. 그래서 시편 기자는 말씀의 맛이 꿀보다 더 달다고 했습니다(시19:103). 하나님의 말씀을 받게 되면 모든 삶에 만족과 즐거움이 가득차게 되기 때문입니다. 꿀은 마음에 달뿐 아니라 뼈에 양약이 된다고 하였습니다(잠16:24). 또한 송이꿀과 같은 하나님의 말씀은 영혼을 소성케 하고 우둔한 자로 지혜롭게 합니다(시19:7-8).

성경은 꿀맛을 경험한 것처럼 하나님의 말씀의 은혜를 맛본 자들의 행적에 대해 기록하고 있습니다. 요나단은 땅에 꿀이 흐르는 것을 보고 손으로 찍어 먹자 눈이 곧 밝아졌습니다(삼상14:27). 삼손은 사자를 때려 눕히고 죽은 사자에게서 생긴 꿀을 먹었습니다(삿14:5-9). 예레미야 선지자는 주의 말씀을 얻어먹어 그 말씀이 기쁨과 즐거움이 되었다고 하였습니다(렘15:16). 그 내용이 마치 꿀을 먹었을 때 나타나는 기쁨과 비슷합니다. 이처럼 꿀과 송이꿀과 같은 말씀의 맛을 경험한 사람들은 하나님의 큰 은혜와 능력을 맛본 자들입니다.

Psalms 19:9-10

The Word of Life

"The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the LORD are firm and all of them are righteous."

In the main scripture reading the honey comb symbolizes the sweet and graceful yet also wise Word of God. Honey is a product that is beneficial when consumed as a health food as it controls the glucose levels in our bodies which aids in reducing fatigue as well as body pain related to arthritis through its calcium and magnesium enriched properties. When we are to observe the process in which honey is produced, a bee needs to go to 560 thousand flower buds to collect a kilo of honey. Such a medicinally potent product is produced through the hard toil of the bee and the untouched flower buds. The taste of honey is used when referring to the best things of the world, especially in Korea when fruit or food tastes exceptionally good we say “it tastes like honey”and in Western countries they call their partners or spouse “honey”.

Likewise, the bible is using the beneficial properties of honey as a comparison to the Word of God. Just like the sweet taste of honey, when we listen to God’s word and understand it we will be given the best joy and happiness. Therefore the author of Psalms said that the Word tastes sweeter than honey(Psalms 119:103). This is because when we receive God’s Word all aspects of our lives will be filled with content and joy. Also, the book of Proverbs states that the Word is sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (Proverbs 16:24). Moreover, the Word of God that is like honeycomb refreshes the soul and makes wise the simple (Psalms 19:7-8).

The Bible records the acts of those who have tasted the grace of the Word of God which tastes like honey. When Jonathan saw the honey that was flowing on the land and dipped his hands into the honeycomb and ate it, his eyes were brightened (1Sam 14:27).

The first day of 2012 pray that you will experience the sweet tasting Word of God and the power of the Word so that you will be able to live each day this year full of the grace and love of God.
