생명의 말씀

“너희가 짐을 서로 지라 그리하여 그리스도의 법을 성취하라”

등하교 길에 무거운 책가방을 들고가다 친구들과 가위 바위 보를 해서 가방 들어주기를 해본 경험들이 있을 것입니다. 가위 바위 보를 잘 해서 이기면 무거운 짐에서 해방될 수 있지만, 잘못해서 질 경우에는 몇 배나 더 무거운 짐을 혼자서 짊어져야 합니다. 자칫 친구들의 가방을 다 들어줘야 될지도 모를 위험성에도 참여하는 것은 내 짐을 맡길 수 있다는 소망 때문일 것입니다.

그러나 오늘 본문은 내 짐 뿐만 아니라 서로 상대방의 짐까지 짊어지라고 권면하고 있습니다. 그것이 그리스도의 법을 성취하는 비결임을 또한 강조하고 있습니다. 그리스도의 법은 무엇일까요? 바로 ‘사랑의 법’입니다. 이 사랑의 법은 ‘자기’라는 울타리를 벗어나 상대방을 생각하고 이웃의 고통과 어려움에 동참하고 그들의 짐을 덜어줌으로서 성취되는 것입니다.

친구의 아픔, 이웃의 고통의 짐을 지어보지 않은 사람은 자기의 분수를 알지 못하고 남의 문제만 보게 마련입니다. 그러한 자는 내 짐도 지기 싫어하고 남에게 떠넘기려 합니다. 자기의 일은 제대로 하지 못하면서 남의 일에 시시콜콜 참여하고 비판하기를 좋아합니다. 그렇기 때문에 진정으로 남의 짐을 지어본 사람은 자기 자신의 일을 살피고 이제 각자 자기의 짐을 짊어지는 성숙한 자가 됩니다. 나아가 장차 내가 무엇을 위하여 땀을 흘리며 씨를 뿌리고 있는가를 성찰할 수 있는 안목을 길러줍니다.

나 자신의 육체를 위하여 심는지, 아니면 성령을 위하여 심는지를. 육체를 위하여 심는 짐은 가볍고 즐거운 것 같지만 그 열매 또한 아무것도 없어 공허할 뿐입니다. 반면에 성령을 위하여 심는 것은 무겁고 힘이 듭니다. 그러나 열매 또한 실하고 알차기 때문에 무겁고 든든합니다. 바로 영생의 열매를 거두기 때문입니다.

나의 죄악의 짐, 인생의 모든 질고를 대신 짊어지신 그리스도를 생각하며 오늘 하루 기꺼이 남의 짐을 짊어지고, 사명의 짐을 짊어질 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.

There were times when we would carry our heavy bags to school. However, after winning a game of rocks, papers and scissors, our friends would carry our bags for us to school. We could be freed from the heavy load of the bags if we were able to win the game but in the event that we lost, we ended up carrying a load that is many times heavier by ourselves. Although we nearly had to carry the bags of our friends, we took a risk with the hope that we could give our heavy loads to our friends.

In our main passage, it encourages us to not only carry our own burdens but also to carry the burdens of other. It is also emphasizes that it is the way to fulfill the law of Christ. What is the law of Christ? It is the "law of love". In order to fulfill the law of Christ, we have to come out of own boundaries and think about others, and share in the sufferings and hardships of our neighbors and taking on their burdens.

The person who doesn’t take on the burden of a friend’s pain, or a neighbors suffering, don’t know their own status and they like to get involved with other’s people’s affairs. That kind of person doesn’t like to carry their own burdens and passes it onto others. They don’t even do their own work properly, and they like to criticize and get into other people’s business. A person who has truly carried the burden of another person, know how to take caution in their own work and they become mature people who don’t give burdens to others. We have to develop an ability to discern what we are sweating and sowing for in the end.

We have to ask ourselves if we are sowing for the flesh or sowing for the Spirit. The things that we sow in the flesh may seem light and enjoyable but there is no fruit leading to emptiness. On the other hand, when we sow things for the Spirit, it is heavy and hard to do. However, it is because there is fruit and content within that makes it heavy. It is because we are reaping the fruit of eternal life.

As you think about Christ who has carried all of your sins and the burdens of mankind, pray that you can take on the task of joyfully carrying the burdens of others.
