욥의 인내를 배우고 확신을 갖자

욥7:17-19

생명의 말씀

“사람이 무엇이관대 주께서 크게 여기사 그에게 마음을 두시고 아침마다 권징하시며 분초마다 시험하시나이까 주께서 내게서 눈을 돌이키지 아니하시며 나의 침 삼킬 동안도 나를 놓지 아니하시기를 어느 때까지 하시리이까”

욥은 성경의 인물 가운데 가장 큰 고통을 겪은 사람입니다. 한꺼번에 모든 자녀와 재산을 잃고, 육신의 건강과 친구와 아내마저 잃은 사람입니다. 하지만 욥의 위대함은 그 고통 가운데서도 하나님의 사랑을 느꼈고 그 사랑의 힘으로 끝까지 인내하고 다시 일어섰던 것입니다. 이처럼 욥의 인내와 재기의 비결은 무엇일까요?

첫째는, 하나님께서 자신을 크게 여기신다는 것을 깨달았기 때문입니다. 본문 17절에 보면 “사람이 무엇이관대 주께서 크게 여기사”라고 말씀합니다. 생명이 끊어지는 고통 속에서도 욥은 ‘크신 하나님’을 발견했습니다. 그리고 크신 하나님께서 자신을 크게 여기신다는 은혜를 깨달은 것입니다. 아브라함에게도 하나님께서는 크게 여기시는 축복을 주셨습니다. “내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대케 하리니”(창12:2). 아브라함 또한 하나님께서 자신을 크게 여기신다는 것을 알았기 때문에 모든 것을 버리고 하나님의 말씀만을 붙잡고 행진할 수 있었습니다.

둘째, 하나님께서 자신을 마음에 두고 계심을 욥은 깨달았습니다. 본문 17절에 “그에게 마음을 두시사 아침마다 권징하시며”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 욥을 향한 하나님의 뜨거운 사랑입니다. 친구와 아내마저 나를 버렸지만 하나님은 나를 버리지 않으셨구나! 하나님의 마음 속에 내가 담겨져 있구나! 이를 깨달았을 때 욥은 한없이 큰 위로를 받고 새 힘을 얻었습니다. 그것이 환난 가운데 인내하여 승리하게된 비결입니다.

크신 하나님의 은총을 깨달은 욥은 결국 ‘큰 사람’이 되었습니다. 자신의 잘못을 끝까지 인정하지 않고 친구들과 논쟁하던 욥이 이제는 그들을 위해 기도해주는 넓은 아량의 사람으로 변한 것입니다(욥42:10). 하나님의 크신 사랑에 대한 체험과 확신이 욥을 이처럼 성장시켰습니다. 욥의 인내를 배우는 우리도 그렇게 성장할 것입니다.

Let Us Learn the Patience of Job and Gain Certainty

Job 7:17-19

The Word of Life

“What is mankind that you make so much of them, that you give them so much attention, that you examine them every morning and test them every moment? Will you never look away from me, or let me alone even for an instant?

Job was a man who had endured the greatest pain among all the people in the Bible. He lost all his children, possessions, health, friends and even his wife all at once. However Job was great as he felt God’s love even throughout his painful times and endured till the end with the strength of God’s love and was able to stand again. What do you think was the secret to Job’s patience and his comeback?

Firstly, it was because he realised that God considered him a great man. In verse 17 in today’s main verse Job says “what is mankind that you make so much of them?” Amidst life wrenching pain Job had discovered the “great God” and he’d also realised the grace that the great God considered him great also. Likewise God gave Abraham the blessing of considering him great “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; will make your name great, and you will be a blessing”(Gen12:2) and

because Abraham was aware that God had considered him great he was able to put everything behind and go forward only clinging onto the Word of God.

Secondly, Job realised God had him in His heart. In verse 17 in today’s main verse he said “you give them so much attention, that you examine them every morning” This is God’s passionate love for Job. Job was comforted and received great strength when he realised he existed within God’s heart and God didn’t leave him even when his friends and wife did. This was the secret that enabled Job to be patient in times of hardship and become victorious.

Ultimately, Job who realised the great grace of God became a "great man". Job had changed from a man who once did not own up to his wrongdoings and argued with his friends to a man with great compassion who began to pray for his friends instead (Job 42:10). Job's experience and conviction of God's great love enabled him to develop into a great person. We too who are learning Job's patience will grow into great men.
