기도로 깨어 있어라

벧전5:8

생명의 말씀

“근신하라 깨어라 너희 대적 마귀가 우는 사자같이 두루 다니며 삼킬 자를 찾나니 너희는 믿음을 굳게 하여 저들을 대적하라...”

베드로는 마지막 때 사단이 우는 사자처럼 두루 다니며 삼킬 자를 찾기 때문에 “근신하라, 깨어 있으라”고 권면하고 있습니다(벧전5:8). 여기서 근신하며 깨어 있다는 것은 ‘기도’를 가리킵니다. 그러므로 마지막 때 사단의 시험과 공격에 승리하기 위해서는 정신을 차리고 깨어 기도해야 합니다. 예수님도 제자들에게 “시험에 들지 않기 위해서 깨어 기도하라”(마26:41)고 말씀하셨습니다. 기도하는 사람은 절대 시험에 들지 않기 때문입니다.

기도는 영혼의 호흡과도 같습니다. 또한 하나님과 나누는 영적 대화입니다. 하나님과의 대화는 황홀한 영적 세계를 체험하게 해줍니다. 그러므로 기도 없이는 절대 능력이 없습니다. 호흡이 없이 생명을 유지할 수 없듯이 영혼의 호흡인 기도 없이 신앙의 생명을 공급받을 수 없기 때문입니다. 예수님도 벙어리 귀신들린 자를 고쳐주시면서 제자들에게 말씀하기를 “기도 외에 다른 것으로는 이런 유가 나갈 수 없느니라”(막9:29) 하셨습니다. 이처럼 기도가 없이는 우리 생활에 결코 능력도 없습니다.

나아가 기도에는 하나님의 언약이 있습니다. “우리가 그에게 기도할 때마다 우리에게 가까이 하심과 같이 그 신의 가까이 함을 얻은 나라가 어디 있느냐”(신4:7)고 하신 말씀처럼, 기도하는 사람은 하나님께서 가까이 해주시겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 이것이 바로 하나님의 약속이요 언약입니다.

또한 기도에는 하나님의 응답이 있습니다. “네가 부를 때에는 나 여호와가 응답하겠고 네가 부르짖을 때에는 말하기를 내가 여기 있다 하리라”(사58:9) 하신 말씀처럼 기도하는 사람에게는 반드시 응답이 있습니다. 악한 길에서 떠나 스스로 겸비하고 기도할 때 하나님께서는 “하늘에서 듣고 그 죄를 사하시고 그 땅을 고쳐주십니다”(대하7:14).

오늘 하루 어떠한 문제가 있습니까? 해결되지 않는 근심이 있습니까? 무엇이든지 구하는 자에게 들어주시는 하나님께 구하십시오. 깨어서 간구하십시오. 그러면 어떤 문제도 응답으로 해결해 주실 것입니다.

Be Awake in Prayer

The Word of Life

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Peter is warning us to be “sober” and “awake” for in the end times Satan prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Pet 5:8). In this verse to be alert and of sober mind refers to prayer therefore in these end times to overcome the attacks and trials from Satan our minds need to be on alert and we must be awake in prayer. Jesus told his disciples to “watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Matt 26:41). This is because a person who prays does not fall into temptation.

Prayer is like breathing of the spirit and it is also a spiritual conversation between us and God. A conversation with God allows us to experience a magnificent spiritual world hence there is no power without prayer. Just as we cannot live without breathing without prayer which is spiritual breathing we cannot receive spiritual life. While Jesus was healing the mute and demon possessed he said to his disciples “this kind can come out only by prayer” (Mark 9:29). Likewise, we who do not pray will have no power in our lives.

Furthermore, within prayer is God’s covenant. As it is written in Deuteronomy 4:7 “What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?”; God promised to draw nearer to the person who prays. This is God’s promise and covenant.

Moreover, God’s answer is in prayer. Just as it is written in Isaiah 58:9 “Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I” God will answer the person who prays. If we turn from the evil path and humble ourselves and pray God said “I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (1 Chr 7:14).
