복있는 사람

시1:1-2

생명의 말씀

“복있는 사람은 악인의 꾀를 좇지 아니하며 죄인의 길에 서지 아니하며 오만한 자의 자리에 앉지 아니하고 오직 여호와의 율법을 즐거워하여 그 율법을 주야로 묵상하는 자로다”

본문은 ‘복있는 사람’과 ‘악인’의 두 종류의 삶을 비교함을 통해 우리로 하여금 복있는 사람이 되는 비결을 말씀해 주고 있습니다. 먼저 본문에서 말씀하고 있는 복있는 사람은 어떠한 사람입니까?





첫째는 율법을 묵상하는 사람입니다. 날마다 율법을 즐거워하고 주야로 묵상하는 사람을 가리켜 본문 3절은 ‘시냇가에 심은 나무’로 비유하고 있습니다. 이 나무는 아무리 가뭄이 와도 시냇가에 그 뿌리를 든든히 내리고 있기 때문에 많은 과실을 맺으며 잎사귀가 마르지 않으니 모든 행사가 형통할 뿐입니다. 이를 볼 때 성경이 말하는 복있는 사람은 하나님과의 올바른 관계를 맺은 사람임을 알 수 있습니다. 율법을 묵상하고, 하나님의 말씀의 시냇가에 뿌리를 깊게 내리는 것이야말로 하나님과의 바른 관계를 맺는 비결입니다.

두번째는 자신의 죄를 사함받은 자입니다. 시32:1-2절 말씀을 볼 때 “허물의 사함을 얻고 그 죄의 가리움을 받는 자”, “마음에 간사가 없고 여호와께 정죄를 당치 아니하는 자”가 복이 있다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이처럼 자신의 죄를 사함받는 자는 오늘 본문 말씀을 볼 때 악인의 꾀를 좇지 않고 죄인의 길에 서지 아니하며 오만한 자의 자리에 앉지 않는 것입니다. 한마디로 죄와는 담을 쌓고 결별하는 삶입니다.

반면에 악인의 길은 바람에 나는 겨와 같다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 왜 그렇습니까? 그들은 의인들과 같이 율법을 묵상하지도 않습니다(:4). 오히려 사람의 잔꾀와 죄악을 도모하는 악한 지혜로 오만한 자의 자리에 앉는 자들입니다. 그 결과 그들은 심판을 견디지 못하고 멸망하고 만다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 우리는 이 두 가지 길 중, 어떠한 길에 서 있을까요?

The Person Who Is Blessed

Psalms 1:1-2

The Word of Life

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.”

The main verse is teaching us the secret to becoming a person that is blessed through a comparison of the life of “the blessed” and “the wicked”. First what type of person is the “person that is blessed “?

It is a person that meditates on the law. In verse 3 of the main scripture reading the person who takes delight in the law and meditates on it every day is compared to “a tree planted by streams of water”. The roots of this tree are deep within the streams of water and therefore even through a drought all things will be prosperous as it will still be able to yield an abundance of fruit and its leaves will not wither. Through this we can see that a person who is blessed is a person who has an upright relationship with God. The secret to a correct relationship with God is by meditating on the law and enrooting deep within the streams of the Word of God.

Secondly it is the person who has been forgiven of one’s sins. It is recorded in Psalms 32:1-2 that “blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.” Like this the one whose sins are forgiven “does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers” and in other words live a life of departing sin completely.

On the other hand the step of the wicked are like “chaff the wind blows away”. Why? Because they do not meditate on the law like the righteous (verse 4) and instead they sit in the seat of mockers. As a result the Bible tells us they are unable to overcome judgment and perish. Then which one of these two paths do we need to take?

Pray that today by meditating on the law and forming a correct relationship with God you will be able to stand in the place of the blessed and walk with God.
