이름없는 섬김으로 충성한 두 형제

고후 8:18-19, 22

생명의 말씀

“또 저와 함께한 형제를 보내었으니 이 사람은 복음으로서 모든 교회에서 칭찬을 받는 자요 이뿐 아니라 저는 동일한 주의 영광과 우리의 원을 나타내기 위하여 여러 교회의 택함을 입어 우리의 맡은 은혜의 일로 우리와 동행하는 자라(:18-19) ... 또 저희와 함께 우리의 한 형제를 보내었노니 우리가 여러 가지 일에 그 간절한 것을 여러번 시험하였거니와 이제 저가 너희를 크게 믿으므로 더욱 간절하니라(:22)”

오늘 본문에는 복음으로 모든 교회에 칭찬받고, 교회의 택함을 입어 은혜의 일로 함께 동행한 두 형제가 등장합니다. 디도의 조력자로서 이들은 이름도 없이 충성한 자들입니다. 찬송가 355장 3절 가사 중 “이름없이 빛도 없이 감사하며 섬기리라”는 내용처럼 이들은 자기의 이름을 잊어버리고 주의 일에 디도와 함께 충성한 진정한 동역자들입니다. 그렇다면 이들이 어떠한 믿음의 사람이었기에 바울은 디도와 함께 일하도록 보내었을까요?

첫째, 이들은 칭찬받는 사람들이었습니다. 그것도 세상 일로서가 아니라 복음으로서 칭찬받았습니다. 복음을 위해 살고, 복음을 위해 핍박받고, 복음이 아니면 물과 양식도 먹지 않을 정도로 복음을 위해 헌신함으로 칭찬받은 사람들이었습니다.

둘째, 이들의 칭찬은 교회와 관련되어 있습니다. “모든 교회”에서 칭찬받는다는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아닙니다. 또한 교회에서 칭찬받는 것보다 더 소중한 것은 없습니다. 왜냐하면 교회는 예수 그리스도 자신이며, 성도들은 그리스도의 몸된 교회와 서로 연결되어 있기 때문입니다. 인본주의적 칭찬은 악취가 나지만 복음과 교회로 인해 받는 칭찬은 우리에게 구원의 향기가 됩니다.

셋째, 무명의 두 형제들은 선택받은 사람이었습니다. “교회의 택함을 입어”(고후 8:19)라는 말은 “손을 들어 표기하여 뽑았다”는 뜻으로 투표를 통해 선출된 자를 의미합니다. 그러므로 이들은 교회의 공개적인 선출을 통해 뽑힌 사람들입니다.

끝으로 이들은 여러 교회에서 여러번 시험을 거쳐 통과한 자들입니다. 오직 큰 열성으로 자기 앞의 시험을 통과하여 끝가지 사도바울이 맡은 은혜의 일에 동참한 자들입니다. 바울의 은혜사역이 차질없이 진행되도록 뒤에서 묵묵히 일한 자들입니다. 오직 복음과 교회를 위해서!

<기도제목>

열심히 충성하고 자신을 드러내는 것은 모든 공을 물처럼 쏟는것과 같습니다. 이름없이 복음과 교회를 위해 충성한 무명의 두 형제처럼, 오늘 하루도 이름없이 빛도없이 충성할 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Two Anonymous Brothers Who Served Faithfully

2 Corinthians 8:18-19, 22

The Word of Life

“And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel. 19What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help. 22In addition, we are sending with the mour brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.”

In today’s main verse appear two brothers who were praised by all churches and were chosen by the church to work together. They were people who served as Titus’ anonymous helpers. Just like in hymn 355, they were true coworkers of Christ who didn’t remember their name and served alongside Titus. Then what type of people of faith were they that Paul sent them to work with Titus?





First, they were people who were praised. They were not praised for worldly work but for the work of the gospel. They lived for the gospel and were persecuted for the gospel. They were people who were fully devoted to the work of the gospel and did not even eat or drink if it were not for the gospel.

Secondly, all the commendations regarding these men were related to the church. It is not easy to be praised by “all the churches”. Moreover, there is nothing more important than being praised within the church. This is because the church is Jesus Christ himself and the saints are connected to the bodily church of Christ. Humanistic appraisal lets off bad odour however to those who have received praise due to the gospel and the church let of the scent of salvation.

Thirdly, the two anonymous brothers were chosen. They were “chosen by the church” (2 Cor 8:19) means they were selected through a vote thus they were chosen through a public ballot.

In conclusion, these men had passed numerous trials in various churches. They were people who overcame the trials solely with great zeal and took part in the work of grace that was appointed to the Apostle Paul. They were men who worked silently behind the scenes for Apostle Paul’s work of grace to proceed without interruption only for the gospel and the church!

Prayer title

Serving faithfully and revealing oneself is like spilling everything that we have done like water. Just like the two anonymous brothers who dedicated their services for the gospel and the church, pray that today we may be able to obey anonymously and without light
