죽음으로 알 수 있는 십자가

고전15:31

생명의 말씀

“형제들아 내가 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에서 가진 바 너희에게 대한 나의 자랑을 두고 단언하노니 나는 날마다 죽노라”

인생에 가장 큰 문제가 있다면 ‘죽음’입니다. 그런데 이 죽음은 ‘죄’로부터 비롯된 것임을 아는 사람은 많지 않습니다. 그래서 성경은 인간의 가장 근본인 죄와 죽음의 문제는 오직 예수를 믿고 십자가 피로 죄사함 받고 성령을 통해 은혜를 받아야만 해결될 수 있다고 가르칩니다. 그렇게 되면, 한날 괴로움은 그날에 족하고 내일로 넘기지 않게 됩니다. 이러한 사람은 선으로 악을 이기며, 한날의 괴로움을 이겨 감사로 바꾸게 됩니다.

이를 위해 첫째는 예비하며 준비하는 신앙이 있어야 합니다. “이스라엘아 네 하나님 만나기를 예비하라”(암 4:12)고 말씀하신 것처럼 인간의 최대 문제인 죄와 죽음의 문제를 인식하고 예비해야 합니다. 오늘날 현대인들은 과학과 여러 가지 오락으로 죽음을 뒷전으로 제쳐놓고 잊어버리고 살아갑니다. 죽음과 상관없는 자들처럼 살아갑니다. 그러나 “비가 온 다음에 다시 구름이 몰려오기 전에 그를 기억하여라”(전12:2, 공동번역)하신 말씀처럼 사람은 ‘비 뒤의 구름’, 즉 환난과 고난 뒤에 찾아오는 죽음을 미리 예비하고 준비해야 합니다. 이는 죽음을 먼 미래의 일로만 보지 않고 날마다 내 삶 속에서 맛보는 삶을 뜻합니다. 그래서 사도바울은 “나는 날마다 죽노라!”(고전 15:31)고 하였던 것입니다.

둘째로, 날마다 삶 속에서 죽음을 예비하며 미리 맛보는 자라면 감사의 삶을 살게 됩니다. 선으로 악을 이기는 삶입니다. 그것은 나 자신을 날마다 십자가에 못박음으로 많은 사람을 살리는 삶을 말합니다. 이처럼 진짜 예수를 믿는 사람은 자신의 죄악과 성질 등 모든 것을 십자가에 못박는 사람입니다. 이들이 ‘믿음으로’ 죽은 자들입니다. 그래서 내가 사는 것이 아니라 이제 예수 안에서, 예수 믿는 믿음으로 다시 사는 자들입니다. 원수까지도 사랑하므로 선으로 악을 이기는 자들입니다. 예수께서 십자가에서 죽음으로 모든 인류에게 산 소망이 넘친 것처럼, 나 한사람이 죽을 때 많은 사람이 살게 됩니다. 그러므로 진정한 십자가의 은혜와 능력은 내가 죽음으로서 알 수 있는 것입니다.

여러분 속에 아직도 옛 속성, 죄악의 성질들이 살아서 활발하게 움직이고 있지는 않습니까? 사도바울의 고백처럼 “나는 날마다 죽노라”는 믿음으로 살아감으로 오늘 하루도 예비하고, 준비하고, 감사로 깨어있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

『I die every day! That is as certain, brothers and sisters, as my boasting of you--a boast that I make in Christ Jesus our Lord.』

The biggest problem in life is ‘death’. But many do not know that death comes from ‘sin’. That is why the bible teaches us that man can only resolve sin and death by believing in Jesus and receiving the grace through the Holy Spirit and by being cleansed of the sins through the precious blood. Each day will have enough trouble of its own and tomorrow will worry about itself. A person with such belief will be able to overcome evil with good, and overcome hardship with thanksgiving.

For this, firstly we must prepare. As written in Amos 4:12, “prepare to meet your God, O Israel”… we must understand the problem of sin and death and we must prepare. Today’s people live in science and entertainment not worrying about death. They live as if death has nothing to do with them. However, as written in Ecclesiastes “and the clouds return after the rain”… we must prepare for the death that comes after the tribulation and suffering. This means, we must not consider death as something that will happen in the long distant future. We must taste death every day in our lives. That is why Apostle Paul said, “I die everyday!” (1stCorinthians15:31).

Secondly, if we are people preparing death in our everyday life, we should also live a life of giving thanks. It is a life that overcomes evil with good. It is a life that crucified on the cross everyday and saving many people. Likewise, a person who truly believes in Jesus is a person that crucifies his sins, temper, and every other thing on the cross. These people are the people who died ‘faithfully’. Therefore, it is not we who live anymore but now we live in Jesus and live again with faith believing in Jesus. We are people who love even our enemies and overcome evil with good. Just as the living hope overflowed to all mankind through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, when we die ourselves many will be able to live thus we know the true grace and power of the cross through our death.

Aren’t your old qualities and the characteristics of sin livelily moving within you? Just as the Apostle Paul confessed “I die every day”, pray that through living by faith you will be able to worship, prepare and be awake with thanksgiving.
