주의 그늘 아래

시17:8-9

생명의 말씀

“나를 눈동자같이 지시키고 주의 날개 그늘 아래 감추사 나를 압제하는 악인과 나를 에워싼 극한 원수에게서 벗어나게 하소서”

무더운 여름날에 시원한 나무 그늘! 생각만 해도 더위가 가시는 시원한 광경입니다. 본문에서 시편 기자는 ‘주의 그늘’을 어떤 의미로 사용하고 있습니까? 눈동자처럼 지키시고 주의 날개 그늘 아래 감춘다는 표현을 볼 때 하나님의 보호를 가리키는 의미로 사용하고 있습니다. 병아리에게 어미 닭의 날개 밑은 든든한 도피처요 요새가 되듯이 시편기자는 주님의 날개 그늘을 든든한 도피처로 여기고 있는 것입니다. 본문에서는 주의 그늘 아래 거하는 자가 받는 축복을 다음과 같이 세 가지로 말씀하고 있습니다.

첫째는, 하나님께서 함께해 주시므로 염려가 없습니다. 하나님께서 다윗을 가리켜 “호기와 무용과 구변이 있는 준수한 자라 여호와께서 그와 함께 계시더이다”(삼상16:18)라고 말씀하셨던 것처럼 주의 그늘 아래 피하는 자와 늘 함께해 주시기 때문에 염려가 없습니다.

둘째는, 모든 길을 지켜 주십니다. 시19:11절 말씀과 같이 당신의 사자를 보내셔서 우리의 가는 모든 길을 지켜주시되 눈동자와 같이 지켜 주십니다.

끝으로, 모든 출입을 지켜주신다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 시121:8절에 “너의 출입을 지금부터 영원까지 지키시리라”고 하셨습니다. 이는 나가도 복을 받고 들어가도 복을 받는 출입의 축복을 뜻하는 것입니다(신28:6). 이른 아침에 학교에 갈 때나 학교에서 공부할 때나, 또 집에 들어올 때나 나를 홀로두지 아니하시고 늘 지켜주십니다.

하나님은 창조의 권능과 능력으로 사망의 그늘로 아침이 되게 하시며 백주로 어두운 밤이 되게 하시는 분이십니다(암5:8). 사망의 그늘로 빛을 만들어 창조하시는 주의 그늘 아래로 나아오는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.

인생을 의지하지 말고 주의 날개 그늘 아래 피하는 하루가 되기를 위해 기도하십시오. 그러할 때 하나님은 여러분의 모든 길, 모든 출입을 지켜주십니다.

Beneath the Shadow of the Lord

Psa 17:8-9

The Word of Life

“Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.”

When we picture the standing under the cool shadow of a tree on a hot summer day it is a sight that relieves the heat just thinking of it. In the main verse what is the author of Psalms using “the shadow of the Lord” to signify? A young chick considers the wings of its mother as a safe refuge and fortress. Likewise the Psalmist is considering the shadow of the wings of the Lord a safe place of refuge. The main verse speaks of three types of blessings that the one who resides below the shadow of the wings of the Lord will receive.





First, God will be with them therefore there is no worry. Just as God said referring to David “He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the LORD is with him” (1 Sam 1:18) there is no need to worry as God is always with the one who hides under the shadow of His wings.

Second, He keeps all our paths safe. As recorded in Psalms 19:11 He keeps us as the apple of His eye by sending His lion to protect all the paths we take.

Finally, it says that He will watch over all our trespasses. “The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Psa 121:8). This signifies the blessings we will receive whether we exit or enter (Psa 28:6). He doesn’t leave me alone and watches over me even in the early hours of the morning when I’m going to school and during my studies at school, or when I return home.

Through the authority and power of creation God turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night (Amos 5:8). May you come and remain under the shadow of the Lord that transforms the shadows of death to light.

Prayer title

Pray that today will be a day where instead of relying on life you will gain refuge under the shadows of the wings of the Lord. When we do this God will watch over all our paths and incoming and outgoing trespasses.
