“내가 노래로 하나님의 이름을 찬송하며 감사함으로 하나님을 광대하시다 하리니 이것이 소 곧 뿔과 굽이 있는 황소를 드림보다 여호와를 더욱 기쁘시게 함이 될 것이라”

  

  성경에서 다윗처럼 성전을 사모하고 하나님을 뜨겁게 섬겼던 사람은 찾아볼 수 없습니다. 성전과 하나님에 대한 다윗의 뜨거운 사랑은 시편의 2/3 이상을 차지하는 그의 수많은 시들을 통해 드러나고 있습니다. 특별히 다윗의 시편 가운데 ‘성전을 사모하는 노래’가 다수를 차지하는 것은 다윗의 성전사랑의 단면을 보여주는 것들입니다: “내가 여호와의 집에 영원히 거하리로다”(시23:6), “만군의 여호와여 주의 장막이 어찌 그리 사랑스러운지요”(시84:1) 

  이처럼 하나님과 성전을 뜨겁게 사랑했던 다윗에 대해 하나님은 크신 축복으로 보답해 주셨습니다. 다윗이 성전을 짓겠다는 마음만 먹었는데도 하나님은 “세상에서 이름난 어떤 위인 못지않게 네 이름을 떨치게 해주리라”(삼하7:9, 공동번역)고 다윗에게 약속해 주신 것이 그 근거입니다. 또한 “모든 대적에게서 벗어나 평안케 하리라”(삼하7:11) 하셨고, 나아가 다윗의 몸에서 날 자식을 세워 그 나라를 견고케 하리라(삼하7:12)고 하셨습니다. 이 아들이 바로 ‘다윗의 자손’으로 오신 메시야가 아니겠습니까? 

  이와같은 약속과 축복을 받은 다윗은 너무나 감사하고 가슴벅찬 나머지 성전에 뛰어 들어가 하나님 앞에 감사의 찬송을 드렸습니다. “감사함으로 그 문에 들어가며 찬송함으로 그 궁정에 들어가서 그에게 감사하며 그 이름을 송축할지어다”(시100:4). 이는 예배의 축제성을 말해주고 있습니다. “노래로 하나님을 찬양하며 광대함으로 하나님을 찬양하는 것이 황소를 드림보다 여호와를 더욱 기쁘시게 함이 될 것이라”(시69:30-31)고 말한 것처럼, 예배는 찬송과 감사의 탄성이 터져나오는 ‘축제’가 돼야합니다. 그 가운데서 기쁨과 희열과 밝은 미래에 대한 소망을 발견하고, 감사와 감격의 눈물이 넘쳐나야 합니다. 하나님의 선하심과 역사를 찬양하고 경축하는 축제의 시간! 예배야 말로 감사와 찬송이 차고 넘치는 천국의 축제의 시간입니다.

여러분에게 성전과 예배는 어떠한 의미와 중요성을 갖습니까? 한번의 예배를 드려도 감사와 찬송의 축제가 되는 신령한 예배를 드릴 수 있기를 위하여 기도하십시오.

 

30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. 31This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves.

 

We cannot find a person who yearned for God and served God more than David. David’s passionate love for God takes up two thirds of the book of Psalms through his many poems.  

The majority of songs that are about David’s love for the temple in the book of Psalms show David’s special love for the temple. “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psa 23:6), “How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty!” (Psa 84:1). 

 

In turn God responded with great blessings to David’s passionate love for Him and the temple. This is evident in the promise He gave David in 2 Samuel 7:9 when David decided that he was going to build a temple; “Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.”  Moreover, He gave him rest from all his enemies (2 Sam 7:11) and furthermore he declared that he will raise up his offspring to succeed him, his own flesh and blood, and establish his kingdom (2 Sam 7:12). That son he referred to was the Messiah that came as the descendant of David. 

  

David who received these promises and blessings was so thankful and overwhelmed that he ran into the temple and sang praises of thanksgiving before God “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name” (Psa 100:4). This shows us the festivities of worship. As recorded in Psalms 69:30-31 “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves” worship needs to become a festival that arouses shouts of praise and thanksgiving. Amidst that we need to discover the hope of a joyful, exciting, bright future and our eyes should well up with tears of overwhelming thanksgiving and joy. The time of worship is the festival where we praise and celebrate how good God is and his work. Worship is a time for the festival of heaven where thanksgiving and praise overflow.

What significance and importance does the temple and worship have to you? Pray that even if you worship once you will be able to give a true worship that becomes a festival of thanksgiving and praise.
