광야교회의 거울

행7:38

생명의 말씀

“시내산에서 말하던 그 천사와 및 우리 조상들과 함께 광야 교회에 있었고 또 생명의 도를 받아 우리에게 주던 자가 이 사람이라”

성경을 기록한 목적은 우리에게 ‘거울’이 되게 함입니다. 광야에서 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님의 말씀을 불순종하고 우상을 숭배함으로 “백성이 앉아서 먹고 마시며 일어나서 뛰논다”라고 책망하였습니다. 또한 이들 중에 어떤 이들이 간음하다가 하루에 23,000명이 죽기도 하였으며, 어떤 이들은 주를 시험하다가 뱀에게 멸망당하기도 하였습니다. 이처럼 광야에서 하나님을 원망하다가 당한 이스라엘 백성들의 당한 일이 거울이 되어 말세를 만난 성도들이 경계를 삼도록 기록한 것이 성경입니다(고전10:12).

그러므로 성경을 자세히 살펴보면 신구약 성경의 역사는 하나님의 구원사역이며, 자신의 활동사역임을 깨닫게 됩니다. 즉, 하나님께서 우리를 구원하시기 위해 열심히 일하시는 모습의 기록인 것입니다. 이러한 하나님의 활동사역을 성경을 통해 깨닫게 될 때 마치 거울을 보며 자신의 몸 매무시를 단장하는 것처럼 신앙생활을 다듬을 수 있게 됩니다.

스데반 집사는 이스라엘 백성들의 이러한 광야생활을 가리켜 ‘광야교회’라고 칭하고 있습니다. 40년의 광야생활을 ‘교회’로 표현한 것은 그들의 실패와 징계를 통해 하나하나 배우고 깨닫는 가운데 하나님의 신실한 백성으로 자라가는 양육의 과정이었기 때문입니다. ‘교회’란 기본적으로 하나님께 예배하고 훈련받는 가운데 하나님의 자녀로 양육받는 도장(道場)인 것입니다.

모세의 기록에 의하면 이스라엘 백성들은 40년 광야 생활에서 하나님의 영광과 광야에서 행한 기적을 보고도 10번이나 하나님을 시험하고 목소리를 청종치 아니하였다고 말하고 있습니다(민14:22). 이러한 불순종과 원망, 그에 따른 하나님의 책망과 심판은 오늘날 우리에게 참으로 좋은 거울이 될만합니다. 광야교회의 거울을 통해 순종의 백성으로 거듭날 수 있는 좋은 본보기인 것입니다.

이스라엘 백성들이 광야에서 보여준 불순종과 원망의 모습을 거울삼아 순종과 충성의 열매를 맺는 하루의 삶이 되도록 기도하십시오.

Mirror of the Church of Wilderness

Acts 7:38

The Word of Life

"This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness together with the angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living oracles to pass on to you.”

Bible is written to serve as a mirror for us. In the wilderness, the Israelites disobeyed God’s commands and worshipped idols. They were scolded with “the people were focused on sitting down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” In addition, there were adulterous people, whereby 23,000 people died daily. Others tested God and were bit by a serpent. The Bible displays how Israelites grumbled against God and acts a mirror for believers to learn from their actions. (1Corinthians 10:12)

When you carefully examine the Bible, you realize that the works are works of salvation and are depicting actions to achieve salvation. In addition, you can see that God is zealously working so that we salvation is achieved. When you realize what God has done for us, we can use the Bible as a mirror to see how our spirit looks so that we can dress well, as we would physically dress ourselves when we go out.

Deacon Stephen said that the Israelites’ wilderness was the church of wilderness. Those 40 years of wilderness represents the period at church. Through the failures and discipline, we can learn step by step how to be God’s children both spiritually and physically. Simply, church is a place where you worship God and through the training, you are nourished so that you can be God’s children.

Moses wrote during the 40 years the Israelites saw God’s glory and signs, yet they tested Him 10 times and did not listen to His voice. (Numbers 14:22) This obedience and grumbling were followed by God’s reprimand and judgment – they serve as a mirror for us to see with. Through the mirror of church of wilderness, we can be an example of reborn obedient people.

Let us pray that we can use Israelites’ disobedience and grumbling against God in the wilderness as a mirror, and in contrary, we can bear obedient and loyal fruits.
