Friday- The day of Suffering

Matt 27:29-31

The Word of Life

29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

Jesus was turned into a large crowd of armed soldiers led by Judas Iscariot and was taken before Caiaphas to be questioned. The members of the Sanhedrin gathered in the early hours of the morning united as one to condemn the Messiah (Mark 15:1). It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm however our Lord was dragged away like a sheep at the hands of the tyrants, the leaders of the church.

The Lord who was left with Pilate then had to undergo extreme suffering and infliction at the hands of his own creation. As soon as Pilate sentenced Jesus to death the soldiers stripped Jesus of all his clothes and dressed him in the garments of the sinner in a red robe and set a crown of thorns on his head. Then they spat on him, beat him and flogged him (Matt 27:27-31).

We four coarse nails pierce the skin of the Lord’s holy body. For the sins we committed with our hearts, he was pierced with a spear, for the sins we committed with our heads he wore a crown of thorns and for the sins we committed with our lips he was beaten with fists. He was inflicted for our sins but rather people thought it was because he had committed many sins. Like a stem sprouting out of a dry land (Psa 53:2), Jesus who carried the cross although he kept falling over at the weight of the cross, his pain, helplessness and weakness was all for our

salvation.

The precious blood of the Lord that dropped to the ground was the blood of life and salvation that saved each sinner. He openly displayed his private parts was a symbol that he would carry our shameful sins instead. The love of God is everlasting! He endured the physical and mental pain of the excruciating inflictions to his body and left us seven precious Words up on the cross.

Prayer title

The death of the Lord is the death of the entire universe. The sun could not even bear its sadness and hid its light on this day. Let us pray that we can understand the pain that the Lord suffered and mediate on the seven precious words he gave us.
