예수님이 주시는 평안

생명의 말씀

“평안을 너희에게 끼치노니 곧 나의 평안을 너희에게 주노라 내가 너희에게 주는 것은 세상이 주는 것 같지 아니하니라 너희는 마음에 근심도 말고 두려워하지도 말라”

염려란 ‘갈라진다’와 ‘마음’의 합성어로 “마음이 갈라지는 것”을 뜻합니다. 마음이 갈라지면 생각이 갈라지고, 생각이 갈라지면 중심을 잃고 결국 망할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그러나 예수님은 우리 마음에 평안을 주시고, 모든 염려를 능히 물리치게 해주십니다. 그렇다면 예수님의 평안은 어떠한 평안일까요?

첫째, 예수님의 평안은 변치않는 평안입니다. 세상이 주는 평안은 변화무쌍하기 쉽지만, 예수님께서 주시는 평안은 환경과 상황의 지배를 받지 않는 불변의 평안입니다. 세상의 평안은 외부의 사정에 따라 수시로 바뀌게 됩니다. 물질이 풍족하면 만족해하다가도 빠져나가면 근심과 괴로움일 밀려듭니다. 그러나 예수님의 평안은 그러한 상황과 환경에 구애받지 않고 아침이나 낮이나 밤이나 누구를 대하고, 어떠한 일을 만나도 변함이 없습니다.

둘째, 예수님의 평안은 연결된 평안입니다. 그래서 그 어떠한 것도 끊을 수 없는 평안입니다. “누가 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 끊으리요 환난이나 곤고나 핍박이나 기근이나 적신이나 위험이나 칼이랴!”(롬8:35)고 고백한 사도바울의 말씀처럼 그 어떠한 것도 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 끊을 수 없습니다. 그러므로 늘 연결된 삶, 그리스도께 연결된 평안입니다.

셋째, 예수님이 주시는 평안은 초인(超人)이 되는 평안입니다. ‘초인’이란 시간과 공간, 환경의 제한을 받지 않는 사람을 말합니다. 그러나 스데반 집사와 같이 예수님의 평안을 받으면 초인이 됩니다. 죽음의 순간에도 웃음을 잃지 않으며 용서를 구하는 그의 모습에서 우리는 ‘초인’의 기개를 읽을 수 있습니다.

예수님의 평안은 너무나 깊고 높고 넓기에 사람의 좁은 식견으로는 헤아릴 수 없습니다. “둘로 하나를 만드사 중간에 막힌 담을 허시고 화목하게 하시는”(엡2:14-16) 주님의 평안으로 담대하게 믿음의 길을 걸어가시는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.

어떠한 고난과 어려움이 몰려온다 해도 예수님이 주시는 평안으로 변치않는 믿음의 사람, 초인이 되어 승리하는 하루가 될 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Peace That Jesus Gives

The Word of Life

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

To worry is a compound word of “division” and “the heart” and means a heart that is divided. When a heat is divided, ones thoughts also divide and when our thoughts divide we lose our balance and ultimately it leads to our fall. However Jesus brings peace to our hearts and rids of all of our worries. Then what kind of peace is the peace that Jesus gives us?

First, the peace of Jesus is an eternally unchanging peace. The peace that the world gives us is easily changed; however, the peace that Jesus gives us isn’t limited by our circumstance or environment. The peace of the world constantly changes according to our external environment and circumstance. When we have an abundance of wealth we feel content but when we no longer have it anxiety and pain follows. However, the peace of Jesus isn’t affected by any environment or circumstance and is unchanged day or night, who we meet or whatever circumstance we are faced with.

Second, the peace of Jesus is a peace that is connected. Therefore it is a peace that cannot be cut off with anything. Just as the apostle Paul confessed in Romans 8:35, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” nothing can cut us off from the love of Christ thus a constantly connected life is a peace that is connected to Christ.

Third, the peace that Jesus gives us is a peace that makes us into supermen. A superman refers to a person that is not limited by time or space and the environment.

However, like Stephan when we receive the peace of Jesus we too will become a superman. We can see his superman traits when he sought forgiveness and did not lose face even at the point of death.

Mankind cannot fathom the peace of Jesus for it is too deep, high and wide. “His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility” (Eph 2:14-16). May you become saints who adamantly walk the path of faith.

Prayer title

Whatever hardships and difficulties come your way, may you become a person of unchanging faith through the peace that Jesus gives and pray that you will be able to become a ‘superman’ and gain victory.
