나라를 지키는 방패와 무기

대하20:21-22

생명의 말씀

“백성으로 더불어 의논하고 노래하는 자를 택하여 거룩한 예복을 입히고 군대 앞에서 행하며 여호와를 찬송하여 이르기를 여호와께 감사하세 그 자비하심이 영원하도다 하게 하였더니 그 노래와 찬송이 시작될 때에 여호와께서 복병을 두어 유다를 치러 온 암몬 자손과 모압과 세일산 사람을 치게 하시므로 저희가 패하였으니”

국가의 안위의 기초는 국방력입니다. 그러므로 주변국과 대치하는 나라치고 국방을 소홀히 하는 나라는 없을 것입니다. 이스라엘도 지정학적인 위치상 수많은 전쟁이 발발한 지역입니다. 그러므로 통치자의 입장에서 국방의 문제를 최우선 순위로 고려할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그러나 성경은 나라를 지키는 방패와 무기, 즉 진정한 국방력은 하나님에 대한 절대적인 신뢰와 기도라고 말씀하고 있습니다.

이와 관련해서 몇 가지 사례를 들 수 있습니다. 우선 유다 왕 여호사밧 왕 때에 암몬과 모압과 세일산 사람들이 연합하여 침략해 왔습니다. 이때 하나님은 ‘아하시엘’을 통해서 여호사밧 왕에게 “전쟁은 하나님께 속한 것”임을 일깨워주며 두려워하지 말 것을 권면했습니다. 그리고 군대의 선두에 찬송하는 자들을 배치하여 하나님께 찬송하기를 시작할 때 여호와께서 복병을 두어 이들을 쳐서 승리를 거두게 되었습니다(대하20:13-23).

또한 아람 왕이 이스라엘을 치기 위해 신복들과 작전을 계획했지만 그들이 침실에서 한 말씀까지도 듣고 대응하는 ‘엘리사’ 선지자가 있었기에 번번이 실패로 돌아가고 말았습니다. 이 사실을 알게 된 아람 왕이 엘리사 선지자를 생포하기 위해 도단 성으로 와서 포위하였지만 엘리사 선지자의 기도를 통해 사환의 눈을 열어 불 말과 불 병거를 보여주셨을뿐 아니라, 다시 아람 군대를 향해 기도할 때 저들의 눈을 어둡게 하여 물리친 일이 있었습니다(왕하6:8-23).

이와같은 두 가지 사례는 “전쟁이란 군사력의 싸움이기도 하지만, 전쟁의 승패는 군사력의 문제가 아니라 기도와 찬송의 능력에 있음”을 깨닫게 해줍니다. 찬송과 기도의 능력을 가진 한 사람의 힘이 백만대군을 능가합니다. 그래서 엘리사 선지자는 엘리야가 승천하는 순간 “이스라엘의 병거와 마병이여!”라며 절규했던 것입니다. 그러므로 찬송과 기도의 능력으로 무장한 참 성도가 이 나라의 신령한 병거와 마병입니다.

이스라엘의 병거와 마병이 되었던 엘리야 선지자처럼 기도와 찬송의 능력을 받아 이 나라를 지키는 신령한 군인, 참된 성도가 되기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Shield and Weapon That Protects a Nation

2 Chronicles 20:21-22

The Word of Life

21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, aying:“Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” 22 As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

The foundation of the security of a nation its defense force therefore there isn’t a nation that does not place importance on defense especially if they face immediate confrontation with neighbouring countries. Israel was a land that was a battle ground that hosted numerous wars due to its geographic location thus the leader of Israel had to consider the issue of national security as their top priority. However, the Bible tells us that the shield and weapon in protecting a nation or true national security constitutes of our complete faith in God and prayer.

A few examples can be referred to in relation to this. First, because of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah the Ammonites, Moabites and the people of Mount Seir formed an alliance and invaded. In response, God spoke to king Jehoshaphat through Jahaziel. He said,“Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.” When the appointed people began singing praises to God at the forefront, the Lord set ambushes against their enemies and they were able to gain victory (2 Chro 20:13-23).

Moreover, the king of Aram and his people had been plotting to invade Israel, however, their plans failed because of the prophet Elisha who even heard their conversations in their bedrooms. King Aram who found out about this tried to capture the prophet Elisha but God had opened Elisha’s spiritual sight and showed the fire, horses, and fire chariots. Furthermore, when Elisha prayed looking ahead at the army of Aram the soldiers became blind and retreated (2 Kings 6:8-23).

The above examples make us realise that war is the battle of military powers. However, the victory or loss in a war is not decided by military might but rather allows us to understand that the power lies within prayer and praise. The person that possesses the power of praise and prayer can overcome an army of 100 thousand. Therefore the prophet Elisha cried out “the chariot and horse of Israel!” at the moment Elijah ascended to heaven thus we must become the true saints and chariot and horse of this nation that are armed with the power of praise and prayer.

Pray that like the prophet Elijah who became the chariot and horse of Israel, we will be able to receive the power of prayer and praise so that we can become true soldiers and saints who protect this nation.
