아벨적인 믿음의 터전을 찾자

히11:4

생명의 말씀

“믿음으로 아벨은 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께 드림으로 의로운 자라 하시는 증거를 얻었으니 하나님이 그 예물에 대하여 증거하심이라 저가 죽었으나 그 믿음으로써 오히려 말하느니라”

배우가 아무리 유명하다해도 무대가 있어야 실력을 발휘할 수 있듯이 성도는 믿음의 터전이 있어야 결실을 맺을 수 있습니다. 그래서 시편 기자는 “터가 무너지면 의인이 무엇을 할꼬”(시11:3)라고 말씀함으로써 ‘터전’의 중요성을 강조하고 있습니다. 그러면 이 믿음의 터전은 누구를 가리킬까요?

첫째, 우리는 역대 선지자들의 믿음의 터전 위에 세움을 입었습니다. 그것은 아벨을 비롯한 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱 등 역대 선지자들의 믿음의 터전을 의미합니다. 이 선지자들의 말씀은 바로 하나님의 말씀이며, 그들의 노정은 사단을 굴복시키는 믿음의 본보기입니다. 하나님께선 믿음의 조상 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱 등 역대 선지선열들로 하여금 아벨과 같은 믿음을 가지고 믿음의 터를 닦아 예수님이 오시는 길을 예비케 하셨습니다. 그러므로 오직 믿고 깨닫는 가운데 역대 선지자들이 걸어간 길을 우리도 걸어야 됩니다. 예수님께서도 고난을 받고 믿음의 본을 보이신 것은 당신의 발자취를 따라오게 하는데 있었습니다(벧전2:21).

둘째, 모세의 노정은 예수님의 노정을 예표해 주고 있습니다. 하나님께서는 애굽에서 종살이하는 이스라엘을 구원하기 위한 지도자로 모세를 세우시고, 바로의 궁에서 40년간 모든 학술을 다 연마하는 가운데 구원의 터전을 닦게 했습니다. 그리고 압제받는 동족의 원수를 갚아 애굽 사람을 죽임으로 하나님께서 자신의 손을 빌어 구원하려 주시는 것을 깨닫기를 바랐던 것입니다(행7:23-25). 그러므로 모세의 노정은 아벨적 믿음을 찾아 이스라엘을 구원하고자 하는 주님의 길을 예표해 주고 있습니다. 모세의 40년 연단의 노정이 예수님의 40일 광야시험의 노정을 예표해주고, 만나와 메추라기로 먹이신 것처럼 예수님은 오병이어 기적을 통해 타락한 인간의 참 생명의 떡이 되어 주심을 나타내셨습니다. 이처럼 모세를 비롯한 역대 선지자들은 아벨의 믿음의 터전을 찾아 구원의 노정을 이루기 위해 사명을 다했던 위인들입니다.

아벨의 믿음의 터전 위에서 예수님의 구원의 노정을 제시했던 선지선열들과 모세의 길을 우리도 믿음으로 따라가는 가운데 깨어있는 산 믿음의 열매를 맺는 하루를 위해 기도하십시오.

Let Us Find the Foundation of Abel’s Faith

The Word of Life

“By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.”

No matter how famous actors are without a stage they cannot showcase their talent. Likewise, a saint must have a foundation of faith in order to bear fruit. Therefore the Psalmist emphasized the importance of a “foundation” by saying in Psalm 11:3 “when the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” then who is this foundation of faith pointing to?

First, we are standing on the foundation of faith established by past generations of forefather’s of faith. That signifies the foundation of faith of Abel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and so forth. The words of these forefather’s were the Words of God and their journey was an example of the faith that would beat Satan. God prepared the path for Jesus through the prophets of faith such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with faith like Abel’s. Thus, we must only walk the path that the prophets walked only believing and realizing. Jesus was afflicted and became a model himself to show us that we must follow in his footsteps (1 Pet 2:21).

Second, the journey of Moses is an antitype of the journey of Jesus. God erected Moses as the leader of the Israelites in order to save them from their slavery in Egypt and allowed him to lay the foundation of salvation whilst mastering all scholarly learning in the palace of Pharaoh for 40 years and, by having revenge by killing the Egyptians who afflicted them, God wanted them to realise that He wanted to save them through His hands (Acts 7:23-25).

Thus the journey of Moses is showing us an antitype of the path of the Lord that wants to seek out the faith of Abel in order to save the Israelites. Moses 40 year journey of training is an antitype that shows us Jesus’ 40 days trial in the wilderness and just as He fed the Israelites in the wilderness through manna and quails, through the miracle of the five loaves of bread and two fish God showed that He had become the true bread of life to fallen mankind. Like this, Moses and the forefathers of faith are great men who sought to fulfill their mission by seeking the foundations of Abel’s faith.

Prayer Title

Pray that today you will be able to bear fruit of faith by following the path of Moses and the forefather’s of faith who proposed the journey of Jesus’ salvation on the foundation of Abel’s faith.
