자기 십자가를 지고

막8:34-35

생명의 말씀

“무리와 제자들을 불러 이르시되 아무든지 나를 따라 오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라 누구든지 제 목숨을 구원코자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나와 복음을 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 구원하리라”

십자가를 지는 삶의 가장 주된 특징은 바로 ‘자기 부인’의 삶입니다. 사도바울도 롬6:6절에서 “우리 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄인의 몸이 멸하여 다시는 우리가 죄에게 종노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니”라고 하였습니다. 과거의 죄악된 몸을 멸하는 것, 즉 자기 부인이야말로 십자가를 지고 가는 삶의 본질이라 할 수 있습니다. 한마디로 십자가에 과거 죄악된 삶을, 죄인된 나 자신을 매장하는 것입니다.

여기서 ‘자기’란 ‘옛 사람’이요 ‘육’으로 난 자아를 말합니다. 그래서 요1:13절에 육을 가리켜서 혈통과 육정과 사람의 뜻으로 설명하고 있습니다. 이를 사도바울은 엡2:1절에서 ‘허물과 죄로 죽었던 너희’라고 하였습니다. 또한 로마 교인들에게는 ‘죄의 몸, 사망의 몸’(롬6:24)이라 하였던 것입니다. 그러므로 ‘자기’란 한마디로 ‘죄인’을 가리킵니다. 죄인의 본성, 죄인의 행동과 가치관, 죄인의 목적이 하나님의 뜻에 합당하지 않은 것입니다. 그러나 예수 믿고 십자가 앞에 나아온 사람은 예수의 영, 성령의 영을 받아서 거듭나기 때문에 ‘자기부인’의 삶을 살 수 있는 것입니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분! 옛 사람이란 성경과 하나님을 믿지 않는 무신론자를 말합니다. 하나님이 계시느냐, 아니 계시느냐 반신반의하는 신앙을 가진 자들을 말합니다. 또한 우상숭배와 인본주의적인 사상을 가진 사람들을 가리킵니다. 이들은 하나같이 교만하고 완고하며 패역한 사람들입니다. 하나님의 영이 없는 자들입니다. 그렇기 때문에 생각이 하늘에 있지 않고 땅에 있는 자들입니다. 이러한 옛 사람을 이제 예수 안에서 벗어 버리고, 십자가에 못박아야 합니다(갈2:20). 옛 사람을 십자가에 못박은 사람은 이제 자기의 유익을 구치 않고 많은 사람의 유익을 위해서 사는 사람입니다(고전3:31-33).

<기도제목>

주님의 고난의 발자취를 따르는 것은 곧 각자의 십자가를 짊어지고 주를 좇는 것입니다. 이는 곧 자기 부인과 온전한 순종을 뜻하는 것이므로, 오늘 하루도 자신을 부인하고 말씀에 순종하므로 십자가를 지고 가는 삶을 살도록 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

"And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it."

In order to live by the cross, one must need to deny oneself. Apostle Paul said in Romans 6:6, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; To disassociate ourselves from our sinful body is to deny ourselves and take up our cross. In other words, you are nailing your sinful past to the cross.

In the scripture verses, the words “himself” represents old self and born of the flesh. In John 1:13 it states, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Apostle Paul states in Ephesians 2:1, And you were dead in your trespasses and sins. To the church of Rome, he described “himself” as body of sin and body of death (Romans 7:24).

Therefore, the word “himself” represents sinner. The true nature actions, values, and purpose of a sinner go against God’s will. However, when you believe in Jesus and come before the cross you will receive Jesus’ spirit and the Holy Spirit, thereby becoming reborn living a life where you have denied yourself.

Beloved brethren! The old self is when people did not believe in the Bible and God. It was when people doubted God’s existence – they questioned whether He was alive or not. In addition, it is when people worshipped idols and centered on themselves. These people were proud, stubborn, and rebelled. They were missing God’s Spirit, where their thoughts were of the earth and not of the heavens.

Once in Christ, this old self needs to be thrown out and you need to take up your cross (Galatians 2:20). Once the old self is nailed to the cross, you will live a life not to benefit yourself but to benefit everyone.

"Prayer Request"

In order to follow the footsteps of Jesus, we must take up our cross. This means we need to deny ourselves and fully obey God’s will. Let us pray that we can deny ourselves and fully obey God by taking up our cross.
