하나님의 침묵

행9:8-9

생명의 말씀

“사울이 땅에서 일어나 눈은 떴으나 아무 것도 보지 못하고 사람의 손에 끌려 다메섹으로 들어가서 사흘 동안을 보지 못하고 식음을 전폐하니라”

사흘간 침묵하셨던 주님, 그러나 그 기간 주님은 가장 확실하게 사울을 돕고 계셨습니다. 주님의 침묵은 그를 향한 더욱 분명한 응답의 기간이었습니다. 하나님께서 불순종한 요나를 큰 물고기 배 속에 3일 씩이나 가두신 것도 요나를 뜨겁게 사랑하셨기 때문입니다. 사흘 동안 그 절망의 심연 속에 갇혀서 요나는 자신의 실상과 인생의 실체를 봤습니다. 무엇을 끊고 어디로 돌아서야 하는지를 확실히 깨달았습니다. 그 사흘로 인해 요나는 비로소 하나님 앞에 영적 성인으로 바로 설 수가 있었습니다. 그러므로 사흘에 걸친 요나에 대한 침묵은 침묵이 아니라 요나의 전 생애에 걸쳐 나타난 가장 큰 하나님의 응답이었습니다. 그 어느 때보다도 하나님께서는 요나를 더욱 확실하게 돕고 계셨던 것입니다.

이처럼 하나님께서는 우리가 알게 모르게 지은 죄를 다 처분시켜 주시기 위해 괴로움과 한숨과 고통 가운데 잠시 침묵하고 계시는 것입니다. 십자가 상의 피맺힌 절규까지도 하나님은 침묵으로 일관하셨습니다. 하나님께서 왜 당신의 독생자가 가장 도움을 필요로 하실 때 당신의 손을 거두고 계십니까? 그 이유는 오직 하나, 사랑하시기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 사흘 동안 손을 거두셨기 때문에 예수님은 온 인류의 어둠의 권세와 싸워 승리하심으로 구원자, 부활의 주님이 되셨습니다. 따라서 하나님께서 손을 거두시고 침묵하시던 그 사흘은 실제로 예수께서 그리스도가 되시는 발판이요 매듭이었던 것입니다.

사울처럼 사흘 동안이나 보지 못하고 먹지 못하는 고통 속에 있지는 않습니까? 요나처럼, 무덤에 갇히신 예수님처럼 홀로 절망과 고통의 감옥 속에 갇혀있지는 않습니까? 그렇다고 절망하지 마세요. 하나님께서 도움의 손길을 거두신게 아닙니다. 여러분들을 더욱 성숙한 그리스도인으로 세우시기 위해 전혀 다른 차원으로 돕고 계십니다. 이 시간 하나님의 침묵은 하나님의 가장 큰 응답인 것입니다.

때로는 하나님의 침묵이 가장 강력한 사랑의 표현이라는 것을 깨닫고, 캄캄한 흑암에서 믿음으로 일어섰던 사도바울이나 요나, 예수님을 생각하며 오늘 하루도 승리할 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

God's Silence

Acts 9:8-9

The Word of Life

"Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.”

While God was silent towards Saul for 3 days, He was most assuredly with Saul. God’s silence was the response that Saul definitely needed. Likewise, God showed his love towards Jonah who disobeyed, when He placed Jonah into the stomach of the great fish. During those 3 days, Jonah reflected on his existence and purpose on earth. He surely understood what ties to cut and which path to take. Through those 3 days, Jonah’s faith matured and was able to stand before God. Therefore, the 3 days of silence was greatest response from God in his entire lifetime. God was most assuredly with Jonah.

Similarly, God allows us to endure suffering and pain with loneliness so that we can cleanse ourselves from knowing and unknowing sins. God was silent toward Jesus who hung on the cross for us. Why did God take away His hands toward His only Son when He needed it the most? There is only one reason, because of love. Because God took away His hands for 3 days, Jesus defeated the world’s darkness and power, and became our Savior and Lord of Resurrection. In addition, those 3 days where God’s took back his hands, filled with silence, tied the knot for Jesus to be the Christ.

Are you enduring the suffering, neither eating nor drinking as Saul did for 3 days? Are you enduring the loneliness of Jonah? Are you in captivity of despair and pain like Jesus, as He hung on the cross? If you are, don’t be! God has not taken away His hands of help from you. He is training you so that you can rise up to higher level of faith where you become mature Christians. Realize that you have already received God’s great response.

When you realize that God’s silence is a great display of His love towards you, you can rise up like Apostle Paul, Jonah, and Jesus who were locked in darkness for 3 days.
