은혜의 때, 구원의 날

고후6:1-2

생명의 말씀

“우리가 하나님과 함께 일하는 자로서 너희를 권하노니 하나님의 은혜를 헛되이 받지 말라 가라사대 내가 은혜 베풀 때에 너를 듣고 구원의 날에 너를 도왔다 하셨으니 보라 지금은 은혜받을만한 때요 보라 지금은 구원의 날이로다”

은혜란 예수 그리스도를 중심으로 성취되는 하나님의 구속사업 전체를 가리킵니다. 사도바울은 오늘 본문에서 이 은혜에 대해 “보라 ‘지금은’ 은혜 받을만한 때요 구원의 날이로다”라고 말하였습니다. 이는 하나님의 은혜의 때는 곧 구원의 날이 되기 때문에 오늘 받아야 할 은혜는 내일로 미루지 말고 그날 받아야 됨을 말해주고 있습니다.

이러한 사도바울의 고백은 구약성경에서 이미 이사야 선지자가 “은혜의 때에 내가 네게 응답하였고 구원의 날에 내가 너를 도왔다”(사49:8)라는 말씀에 근거하고 있습니다. 이것의 공통점은 하나님께서 은혜를 베푸실 때 나를 도와주시고, 구원해 주신다는 것입니다. 그러므로 은혜를 받게되면 은혜만 오는게 아니라 구원의 축복이 함께 옵니다. 여리고 도성에서 세리장 삭개오에게 하신 예수님의 말씀도 이 사실을 뒷받침해주고 있습니다. ‘오늘’ 이 집에 구원이 이르렀다고 하는 말씀 속에 예수님의 은혜가 곧 그 가정의 구원이 된다는 뜻이 담겨있기 때문입니다.

구약에서도 다니엘과 그의 세 친구들이 이와같은 은혜를 체험한 바 있습니다. 사자굴 속에 던져진 다니엘이 역경 속에서 하나님께 은혜를 구하고 의지할 때 하나님의 은혜가 임하고 다니엘에게 구원의 날이 선물로 주어졌습니다. 그의 세 친구들 또한 풀무불 가운데 던져졌지만 하나님께 기도하고 하나님만을 의지할 때 그들의 고난의 현장에 주께서 동참해 주시는 은혜를 베풀어 주셨습니다. 그 결과 ‘구원의 날’이 그들에게 임하지 않았습니까?

시편 기자는 “고난 당한 것이 내게 유익이라 이로 인하여 내가 주의 율례를 배우게 되었나이다”(시119:71)고 한바와 같이 은혜란 역설적으로 내가 가장 힘든 순간, 고난의 때에 가장 크게 임하는 것입니다. 그러므로 고난이 오면 오히려 하나님의 은혜가 임할 때가 된줄로 믿고 오히려 감사할 때, 다니엘과 그의 세 친구들에게 은혜와 구원이 임한 것처럼 하나님의 은혜와 구원이 ‘오늘’ 임하게 됩니다.

은혜는 구원을 수반합니다. 아무리 힘들고 어려운 고통 가운데 있다 해도 은혜의 주되신 예수 그리스도를 영접함으로써 여러분에게 찾아올 놀라운 구원의 역사를 체험할 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Time of Grace, the Day of Salvation

2 Corinthians 6:1-2

The Word of Life

“As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

Grace points to the entire management of the God’s history of redemption that is fulfilled with Jesus at its center. In the main scripture reading the apostle Paul spoke about grace as “the time of God’s favor”. This tells us that the time of God’s grace is also the day of salvation thus it tells us that the grace that the receiving of today’s grace mustn’t be delayed and received on the present day.

This confession from the apostle Paul is based on what the prophet Isaiah said in Psalms 49:8 that “the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough”. The common point here is that when God gives us grace, He also helps us and gives us salvation, therefore when we receive grace, not only does that grace come to us but also the blessing of salvation. This fact is supported by what Jesus said to Zacchaeus the tax collector in the city of Jericho. When Jesus says that “today” salvation has come upon this household, it also signifies that the grace of Jesus has become the salvation of that household.

In the Old Testament we see Daniel and his three friends experience such grace. When Daniel found himself thrown in the lion’s den and faced with hardship he began to seek the grace of God and consequently the grace of God came upon him and Daniel was awarded the gift of the day of salvation. His three friends were also thrown amidst a fiery furnace however when they prayed to God and only relied on Him God gave them the grace of accompanying them in the place of suffering and as a result the day of salvation came upon them.

The author of Psalms says in Psalms 119:7 “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees” and likewise grace comes to us greater in times of hardship and sufferings. Therefore when sufferings come, when we believe that the time of God’s grace has come and give thanks just as grace and salvation was upon Daniel and his two friends, God’s grace and salvation will be with us today.

Prayer title

Grace accompanies salvation. Whatever difficult sufferings we may be going through by receiving Jesus Christ who is the Lord of grace pray that you will be able to experience the astonishing work of salvation that will come to you.
