토요일 - 비애의 날

마27:64-66

생명의 말씀

“그러므로 분부하여 그 무덤을 사흘까지 굳게 지키게 하소서 그의 제자들이 와서 시체를 도적질하여 가고 백성에게 말하되 그가 죽은 자 가운데서 살아났다 하면 후의 유혹이 전보다 더 될까 하나이다 하니 빌라도가 가로되 너희에게 파숫군이 있으니 가서 힘대로 굳게 하라 하거늘 저희가 파숫군과 함께 가서 돌을 인봉하고 무덤을 굳게 하니라”

토요일, 주님은 캄캄한 무덤에 계시고 제자들과 예수를 따르던 여인들은 슬픔에 잠겨 있던 날입니다. 예수를 십자가에 처형했으나 마음이 놓이지 않는 대제사장들과 바리새인들은 빌라도에게 찾아가 “제자들이 예수의 시체를 훔친 후 부활했다는 헛소문 내는 것을 방지하기 위해 무덤에 파수꾼을 세워달라”고 부탁합니다. 이들의 청을 들은 빌라도는 무덤을 큰 돌로 막고 인봉한 후 경비병을 세워 단단히 지키게 했습니다. 그러나 이 얼마나 어리석은 행동입니까? 아무리 큰 돌이나 많은 수의 군인을 동원한다 한들 우리 주님의 부활을 어찌 가로막을 수 있단 말입니까? 하나님의 섭리를 어찌 사람의 손으로 억제할 수 있단 말입니까? 당시 교권주의자들은 예수께서 생전에 말씀하신 ‘부활’에 대한 일말의 불안감으로 초조하게 보낸 하루라면, 제자들이나 여인들은 부활의 약속을 기억하지 못하고 슬픔으로 비애에 젖어 보낸 하루였습니다(마27:61).

그러나 우리 주님을 보십시오. 사람들의 두려움이나 슬픔과는 상관없이 육체로는 죽임을 당했으나 영으로는 오히려 살리심을 받아 노아 때 죽은 영혼들에게 복음을 전파하고 계시지 않습니까? 노아의 전도에는 귀를 기울이지 않아 홍수 심판에 죽을 수밖에 없었지만 주님께서는 그들까지도 사랑하시는 사랑의 극치를 보여주고 있습니다. 주님의 성체는 십자가에 달려 죽으셨지만 그분의 죽으심은 많은 잠자던 성도들을 일으키고 무덤을 열어 새 생명을 허락해 주셨습니다(마27:52-53).

그러므로 오늘 토요일은 믿지 못하던 사람 편에서는 분명 비애의 날이었으나 주님께서는 일하시는 날, 내일의 영광스런 부활을 향해 힘차게 달려가시는 날이었습니다. 이를 믿지 못하고 깨닫지 못하는 사람들에게까지도 부활의 기쁨과 소망을 심어주시기 위해 ‘옥’에까지 내려가 노아 때 영혼들로부터 나까지 끌어안으시고 조용히 내일을 기다리신 날입니다.

<기도제목>

오늘은 십자가와 부활이 맞닿은 날입니다. 이제 십자가의 고통과 비애는 멀리하고 영광스런 부활의 새아침을 맞이하기 위해 기쁜 마음으로 준비할 수 있는 하루를 위해 기도하십시오.

Saturday–The day of sorrow

Matt 27:64-66

The Word of Life

64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” 65“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Saturday was the day that the Lord was in the dark cave where he was buried and the women who followed Jesus were engrossed in sorrow. The high priests and Pharisees who crucified Jesus on the cross whose mind was not at ease went to Pilate and asked him to put up guards in front of Jesus tomb as they were afraid that the disciples might steal Jesus’ body and spread false rumors that Jesus had been raised from the dead. Upon hearing their request Pilate barricades and seals off the tomb with a large boulder and placed a guard at the tomb but how foolish were their actions?

No matter if they use a large boulder or gather a large army of soldiers how can they stop Jesus’ resurrection? How can God’s providence be forced to a halt at the hands of man? The religious leaders of the time spent the day worrying about the resurrection that Jesus spoke about while he was alive and the disciples and the women spent the day immersed in grief and sorrow without being able to remember the promise of resurrection that Jesus left them with (Matt 27:61).

However, behold our Lord! Regardless of peoples fear or sorrow is he not proclaiming the gospel to the spirits who died in the days of Noah even though his physical body was dead? He is showing us the ultimatum of his enduring love for even those who did not listen to Noah’s evangelism. The Lord’s holy body was crucified on the cross however his death enabled many sleeping saints to rise from their coffin and receive new life (Matt 27:52-53).

Therefore to those who do not believe in Saturday, today is definitely a day of despair however to the Lord it was a day of work and a day of advancement into the next day, the day of resurrection. It was the day he came down to the ‘prison’ to plant the joy and hope of the resurrection into the hearts of those who did not believe and could not understand from the days of Noah and us, embracing us silently whilst waiting for tomorrow.

Prayer title

Today is the day that the cross and the resurrection meet. Pray that today you will be able to become distant from of the pain and sorrow of the cross and prepare for the glorious new morning of resurrection.
