하나님의 교회는 큰 집이라

딤전3:15

생명의 말씀

“만일 내가 지체하면 너로 하나님의 집에서 어떻게 행하여야 할 것을 알게하려 함이니 이 집은 살아계신 하나님의 교회요 진리의 기둥과 터이니라”

참된 교회는 인간의 산물이 아니라 하나님이 지상에 주신 최대, 최고의 신적 산물입니다. 교회의 주인은 하나님이며, 교회의 목적은 오직 예수 그리스도의 십자가 복음을 증거하는데 있습니다. 성경은 이러한 교회를 ‘하나님의 집’이라 말씀하고 있습니다. 이는 교회가 “하나님을 아버지로 우러러 보는 그리스도인 전체의 가족”을 의미하기 때문입니다. 이처럼 교회는 하나님의 집이되 ‘큰 집’(딤후2:20)입니다. 그러면 왜 하나님의 집은 큰 집일까요?

첫째, 교회의 주인인 하나님이 크고 위대한 분이시기 때문입니다. 사도바울은 “우리의 크신 하나님”(딛2:13)라고 하였으며, 시편 기자는 “대저 여호와는 크신 하나님이시오 모든 신 위에 크신 왕이시로다”(시95:3), “여호와는 광대하시니 극진히 찬양할 것이요”(시96:4)라고 찬양하였습니다. ‘광대’하다는 말은 넓고도 크다는 말입니다. 이는 하나님의 무소부재하심과 천지에 충만하심을 말해줍니다. 이처럼 교회의 주인이신 하나님이 크고 광대하시기에 그분의 거처인 교회도 ‘큰 집’인 것입니다.

둘째, 교회의 활동이 세계적이며 우주적이기 때문입니다. 하나님의 교회의 활동범위는 세계적이며, 우주적입니다. “각 나라와 족속과 방언에서 아무라도 능히 셀 수 없는 큰 무리”(계7:9)가 교회의 선교활동을 통해 하나님께 나아옵니다. 또한 주님은 만유의 주이시고, 만유 안에 거하시는 분이기에 그분의 거처인 교회 또한 만유 가운데 함께합니다. 그러므로 교회의 활동범위는 세계적일뿐 아니라 우주적입니다.

셋째, 교회의 사명은 천하보다 귀한 생명을 취급하는 곳이기 때문입니다. 교회는 사교의 장소도 아니요 경제활동의 무대도 아닙니다. 오직 사람의 생명을 살리는 곳인데, 그 생명은 천하보다 귀한 것입니다(마16:27). 교회의 말씀선포를 통해 천하보다 귀한 생명을 취급하여 그들을 살리는 곳이 교회이기에 교회는 ‘크다’ 여길 수밖에 없습니다.

우리 하나님은 크신 하나님이며, 그분의 거처요 활동무대인 교회도 큰 집입니다. 오늘도 크신 하나님의 능력으로, 큰 집에서 열심히 봉사하고 충성할 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

A true church is not a gift of man but the greatest divine gift that God has given to this earth. The owner of the church is God and the purpose of the church is to testify the gospel of Jesus Christ upon the cross. The Bible refers to such a church as “the house of God”. This is because the church symbolizes “the entire family that looks up to God as the Father”. Likewise the church is the house of God and a “great house” (2Tim 2:20). Then why is God a great house?

First, it is because God owns the church and He is great and mighty. The apostle Paul referred to God as “Our great God” (2Tim 2:13) and the Psalmist praised God; “the Lord is great God, the great King above all gods” (Psa 95:3) and “For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods” (Psa 96:4). The word “great” shows the greatness in breadth and width. It speaks of the omnipresence of God upon the universe thus God who is the owner of the church is great and mighty therefore he resides in a “great house”.

Second, it is because the work of the church is international and universal. The scope of the work of God’s church is international and universal. “A great multitude that no one could count from every nation, tribe, people and language” (Rev 7:9) comes before God from the church and its mission work. Furthermore, the Lord is Lord of the universe and resides within the universe thus the church which is His residence is with the Lord. Thus the scope of the work of the church is not only international but universal.

Third, it is because the mandate of the church is the place where it deals with lives that are more precious than the whole world. The church isn’t a place for socializing or economic activities. It is only a place where lives that are more precious than the entire world are saved (Matt 16:27). We cannot not consider the church a “great” place as it is a place where precious lives are saved through the Word that is proclaimed in the church.

Prayer Title

Our God is a great God and his residence and stage of work is the great church. Pray that you will be able to be obedient and serve fervently in the great house through the great power of God.
